Lightyears from Home by CHEP, now Clemenger BBDO , won a Distinction in our Design Effectiveness category at the 2025 AGDA Awards.
âFor kids in hospital, it can be a long journey home. To confront this problem, hospitals Australia-wide united under one banner âHUSKâ to fund treatments to get kids all home sooner - all illnesses, all injuries, all hospitals. [But] studies show as the number of children in need increases, the empathy we feel for them decreases; a phenomenon called âCompassion Fadeâ.
Our design journey began with âLightyears From Homeâ - an animated short that follows a child-like space creature, Blip, who is far from home and navigating many challenges to find their way back.
Instead of asking people to feel empathy for all kids, we asked them to empathise with just one. Blipâs oversized space suit gave him a relatable childlike quality, and he wakes up in the farthest reaches of space (a part of the universe weâve never seen - so varied and rich in colour, where the nebulae are inhabited by ghosts and moon craters have eyes) emphasising the distance kids in hospital feel from home.
In just 12 months, the campaign delivered outstanding results, reaching 7.36 million Australians and raising over $2.2 million for sick kids in hospitals. Brands flocked to add Blip to their products and join our cause, including Coles, Kellanova (Kelloggâs), Disney, Lowes and Swisse. All of this was achieved with an exceptional return on investment of 610%.â
