Com.It.Es. SA is delighted that Mr Matthew Marozzi MP will be re-establishing the 'Parliamentary Friends of Italy' group.

We are grateful for the opportunity to share priorities for the Italian community: promoting the Italian language and a language policy for South Australia, preserving our traditions, and creating opportunities for the next generations - whether born here or newly arrived.

🇮🇹 Italian Citizenship for Children Born Abroad: Key Deadlines

Italian families abroad should note the updated deadlines for acquiring citizenship through a declaration under beneficio di legge:

📅 31 May 2029: The extended deadline for eligible children who were under 18 on 24 May 2025. This transitional provision applies where a parent’s Italian citizenship by birth was recognised through an administrative or judicial application submitted by 27 March 2025, or an application based on an appointment communicated by that date.

📅 Within three years of birth: The ordinary deadline for the parents’ declaration, where at least one parent is an Italian citizen by birth and the legal requirements are met. The period may run from a later date when parentage or adoption is established.

Turning 18? Eligible children covered by the transitional provision who reach adulthood must submit the declaration personally by 31 May 2029.

Please check your family’s eligibility and submission requirements with the Italian Consulate well before the deadline.

It was a pleasure for ComItEs to support the inaugural Aboriginal Italian Forum yesterday at Yitpi Yartapuultiku in Port Adelaide, on Kaurna Country.

Hosted by Dr Pallotta-Chiarolli AM and the Mobs and Wogs Project, the forum brought people together for open and honest conversation, and a chance to listen and learn from one another.

We heard warm and moving speeches from Minister for Multicultural Affairs Nadia Clancy MP and member for Port Adelaide Cheyne Rich MP. Cheyne, whose mother is Italian, spoke about growing up at the intersection of two cultures and the experience of feeling neither fully Italian nor fully Australian.

Maria then facilitated a wonderful panel featuring filmmaker and musician Edoardo Crismani, Lina Scalfino, Auntie Irene, and ComItEs President Marinella Marmo.

Grazie to Maria for pulling this incredible day together and for everyone who made the day possible, including all those who attended. Grazie also to Fogolar Furlan Adelaide, Dante Alighieri Society of SA Inc. and Co As It SA Inc who joined us in supporting this inaugural event.

We look forward to continuing these important conversations between our communities.
