Access Chapter 2 Promoting and Protecting the Human Rights of Women and LGBTI+ People in their Diversity.

A world where women and Le***an, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender and Intersex (LGBTI) people in their diversity have equal access to services and human rights. Access Chapter 2’s (AC2) vision and mission is built from the women’s and LGBTI centred approach, and seeks to ensure civil society sector’s substantive participation in civil, political and socio-economic rights as enshrined in the bill of rights.

Access Chapter 2 Participated in the Lenacapavir and Cancer Launch in Gqeberha

Access Chapter 2 (AC2) has actively engaged community members, key populations, and healthcare workers through training sessions, dialogues, and consultation meetings on Lenacapavir, contributing to increased awareness and understanding of HIV prevention.

AC2 is proud to share its participation in the Lenacapavir and Cancer Launch, held at George Botha Community Hall in Gqeberha. During the event, Dr Sibongile Madondo delivered an educational talk on cervical cancer, highlighting the importance of HPV vaccination as a key measure in preventing cervical cancer.

MEC Ntandokazi Capa emphasized the importance of prevention, equitable access to healthcare, and stronger partnerships in protecting and improving the health and well-being of communities.

Through this launch, the Eastern Cape Department of Health (ECDOH) reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening HIV prevention efforts and improving access to essential healthcare services for all.

Access Chapter 2 remains committed to empowering communities with accurate health information, promoting informed decision-making, and supporting inclusive access to HIV prevention and essential healthcare services.

Do you know what LA PrEP is and how it works? 🤔

Long-Acting Pre-Exposure Prophylaxis (LA PrEP) is a long-acting HIV prevention option for people who are HIV-negative. Depending on the product, it is given as an injection at scheduled intervals to help prevent HIV infection.

💡 How does LA PrEP work?
✔️ It provides medicine that helps prevent HIV from establishing an infection in the body.
✔️ It is administered according to a healthcare provider’s schedule.
✔️ It offers an additional HIV prevention option for people who prefer not to take a daily oral PrEP pill.
✔️ Regular HIV testing and follow-up appointments are essential to ensure it remains safe and effective.

Today, Access Chapter 2 attended the GOCA Business Empowerment Workshop held at Mamelodi Thusong Centre (Council Chamber).

The workshop brought together various government departments and agencies to share information on business empowerment, compliance, and support available to businesses. Presentations were delivered by the Companies and Intellectual Property Commission (CIPC), South African Revenue Service (SARS), Small Enterprise Development and Finance Agency (SEDFA), Gauteng Liquor Board (GLB), Council for Debt Collectors (CFDC), and Gauteng Office of Consumer Affairs (GOCA).

The workshop provided an opportunity to gain valuable information and engage with stakeholders on business development and empowerment.

Access Chapter 2 monitored proceedings at the Pretoria Magistrate’s Court during the accused’s first appearance in a case involving allegations that a gay-identifying man was subjected to homophobic violence, including assault with intent to do grievous bodily harm (GBH).

The matter was postponed to 26 November 2026 for the accused to consult with the State. It will return to court on that date for further proceedings.

Access Chapter 2 will continue monitoring the case and documenting developments, reaffirming its commitment to accountability, protecting LGBTIQA+ rights, and ensuring access to justice for people affected by homophobic violence.

⚖️ MONITORING FOR JUSTICE | COURT MONITORING

Access Chapter 2 will be conducting court monitoring on 12 October 2026 at the Pretoria Magistrate Court in a case involving a gay-identifying man who was allegedly subjected to homophobic violence, including assault with intent to cause grievous bodily harm (GBH) and stabbing.

We stand firmly against hate-motivated violence and all forms of discrimination. Every person deserves dignity, safety, equality and access to justice, regardless of their sexual orientation or gender identity.

Through court monitoring, we seek to promote accountability, strengthen access to justice, and ensure that cases involving violence against LGBTQIA+ persons receive the attention they deserve.

Justice must be served. Hate has no place in our communities. 🏳️‍🌈⚖️

The Le***an community has a very long history, and there is no better day than today to discuss the 7-Stripe Le***an Flag. In 2018, Emily Gwen released her design for a new le***an flag with 7 stripes each holding a different meaning:
Dark orange for Gender non-conformity,
Orange for Independence,
light orange for Community,
white for unique relationships to Womanhood,
pink for Serenity and Peace,
dusty pink for Love and S*x,
and Dark rose for Femininity.
