What an incredible achievement by our own Sandy Dorlas, PHSG Old Girl from the Class of 1984 and a valued member of staff!

We are delighted to celebrate Sandy being awarded South African Masters Swimming Colours after achieving a Top 10 World Ranking time in her age group in the 200m Butterfly. Her dedication, perseverance and commitment to excellence both in and out of the pool are truly inspiring.

Congratulations, Sandy! Your PHSG family is incredibly proud and celebrates this remarkable achievement with you.

We are proud to congratulate Ms Dorlas on achieving her South African Masters Swimming Colours.

To be awarded SA Masters Swimming Colours, a swimmer must achieve a Top 10 World Ranking time in their age group for a particular event. Ms Dorlas earned this prestigious honour after swimming a qualifying time in the 200m Butterfly at the SA Masters Swimming Championships held in George in March 2026.

This is an outstanding achievement and a testament to her dedication, discipline and excellence in the pool.

Well done, Ms Dorlas — we celebrate this remarkable accomplishment with you!

It is with great sadness that we share the passing of Catherine Paine (née Boshoff), who matriculated from Pretoria High School for Girls in 1986. Cathy passed away in Fort Mill, North Carolina, on 15 April, after a courageous three-year battle with cancer.

Those who had the privilege of knowing Cathy, especially her fellow boarders, will remember her brilliant mind, artistic talent, deep and lasting friendships, and effortless charisma. Above all, she will be remembered for her steadfast faith.

Our heartfelt condolences go to the Boshoff and Paine families during this difficult time.

A Proud PHSG Legacy Across Generations: The History of the Maisie Baikie Singing Trophy

Maisie Eleanor Baikie matriculated in 1917 at Pretoria High School for Girls was known for her beautiful singing voice, performing in choirs, concerts, church services and as a soloist in Handel’s Messiah.

In 1986, when her granddaughter Janet Sandilands (Loubser) was Head Girl, Maisie’s daughters decided to donate the Maisie Baikie Singing Trophy in Maisie’s honour.

The trophy continues to be awarded annually to a talented matric singer at PHSG.

Today, the family’s proud connection to the school is carried forward by Maisie’s great-granddaughter, Jessica Loubser, who is currently a Grade 12 learner at PHSG.
