"What are their names?"
It’s a simple question, but it changes everything.
When we look at homelessness from a distance, it’s easy to see numbers, statistics, or a complex urban challenge. But when you move closer, the crowd disappears—and you're left looking at a person. A neighbor. Someone's son, daughter, or parent.
True care isn't just about charity from a distance; it's about mutually transformative relationships. It’s moving from dropping a spare coin to sitting down, listening, and learning a name.
Living on the street brings a heavy poverty—not just a poverty of resources, but a poverty of safety, health, and human connection. When society stops looking you in the eye, you become invisible.
At PEN, we believe restoration begins when someone is seen, known, and valued. You might not know their names yet, but we do—and we invite you to walk alongside us as we walk alongside them.
