Last week, MYCHAM had the pleasure of attending the Johannesburg Chamber of Commerce and Industry - JCCI Bussiness Briefing and Networking session with the Dubai Chamber which brought together international businesses and stakeholders across multiple sectors for meaningful engagement and collaboration.

Events like these highlight the importance of strong chamber-to-chamber cooperation in unlocking trade, investment, and partnership opportunities across Africa, the Middle East, and Asia.

At MYCHAM, we believe collaboration between chambers is essential to helping businesses expand into new markets, build trusted networks, and create long-term economic value. We look forward to strengthening relationships with fellow chambers and industry partners to further support Malaysian companies exploring opportunities across Southern Africa and the continent.

Our appreciation to the Johannesburg Chamber of Commerce and Industry and Dubai Chambers for hosting a valuable platform for international business engagement.

Two weeks ago, MYCHAM had the pleasure of attending Malaysian Chef Shankar R. Santhiram's Sappadu Experience hosted at the beautiful Blue Valley Golf & Country Estate, owned by the
Mitrajaya Group.

It was a proudly Malaysian affair, with our Indian cuisine taking centre stage as a cultural ambassador, and Chef Shanker serving as its passionate spokesperson.

The experience reinforced something we strongly believe at the Chamber, Malaysia’s global potential extends far beyond commodities, infrastructure, technology, and manufacturing. One of Malaysia’s most powerful and underutilised exports is its food culture.

Malaysian cuisine carries a unique fusion of Malay, Indian, Chinese, and indigenous influences that naturally resonates with Africa’s diverse and flavour-rich palate. From banana leaf rice and roti canai to satay and nasi kandar, Malaysian food offers familiarity, depth, warmth, and authenticity that connects strongly across cultures.
Africa presents a significant opportunity for Malaysian food brands, restaurant groups, café concepts, halal food producers, and franchise operators looking to expand internationally. With growing urban populations, rising middle-class consumers, and increasing appetite for new dining experiences, the market potential is substantial.

Food is more than a meal, it is soft power, cultural exchange, tourism promotion, and economic opportunity all on one plate.
If you are keen to bring your F&B brand to Africa, explore partnerships, market entry opportunities, trade connections, or franchise expansion support, contact the Chamber at [email protected]

FROM APARTHEID TO PALESTINE: MALAYSIA AND SOUTH AFRICA AS A BLUEPRINT FOR SOUTH-SOUTH COLLABORATION

Thoughts by Salim Abu Haniffa

As we enter the final stretch of the 2025 ASEAN Chairmanship, Malaysia is well-positioned to build on the momentum and milestones over the past nine months and finish strong, by deepening ASEAN’s ties with the Global South, starting with South Africa.

In a world increasingly impacted by fragmentation and protectionism, principled partnerships matter more than ever.

From our vocal opposition to apartheid, to our unwavering solidarity with Palestine, Malaysia and South Africa have consistently aligned on global justice. These foundations matter. In an era where trust is currency, moral consistency transcends transactional diplomacy.
