UJW Johannesburg held its 94th AGM today which was well attended by past presidents, other Jewish organisations, volunteers and donors.

We are honored by National President Sue Jacobson's recognition of our achievements over the past year. She commended the branch's commitment to education, innovation, and meaningful community partnerships. She praised our volunteers for ensuring the UJW remains relevant, compassionate, and responsive to the needs of our communities.

Chairman Ingrid Koor reflected on another year of dedicated service, highlighting the Union of Jewish Women's mission to "fill hearts, plates and dreams" through programmes that support and empower people of all ages. She recognised the outstanding contributions of the executive committee, staff and volunteers whose commitment drives our many long-term projects for both the Jewish community and outreach. She also celebrated the successful launch of the younger Dor l'Dor branch, growing collaborations with other organisations, and the importance of interfaith and community engagement. Ingrid expressed heartfelt gratitude to everyone who contributes to the organisation's success and called on members to continue supporting its work through volunteering, fundraising and donations.

Lynne Levin received a Certificate of Appreciation in honour of her outstanding contribution to the Union of Jewish Women. From her years as an efficient secretary to founding the thriving Monday knitting group and producing the much-loved monthly gardening newsletter, Lynne has enriched the lives of our members and the wider community. Her passion, talent and generosity continue to inspire us all.

On behalf of the International Council of Jewish Women (ICJW), Debbie Wasserman congratulated us on our 94th anniversary, recognising nearly a century of dedicated service, leadership and commitment to empowering women, advancing human rights and strengthening communities. She reaffirmed ICJW's pride in its longstanding partnership with UJW South Africa and wished us continued success as a powerful force for social justice, community service and Jewish values.

We were thrilled to relaunch our special Bobba Zaida trip in memory of the late Pam and Norman Lowenthal earlier this year. This project sees a Bobba/ Zaida or both sent on a sponsored trip abroad. We had many suitable applications from parents desperate to reunite with their children and grandchildren abroad. Our special winners were David and Dilyce Abelman who will visit their precious family in Australia. An anonymous donor stepped forward and is sending a second Bobba, Vanessa Chesno, to visit her daughter in Canada and an absence of too many years. Both winners received brand new luggage and vouchers.

Our inspiring speakers, Rob Katz and Khanyi Mlambo, held our attention with their talk on Ubuntu in Motion, highlighting the incredible work they do with the Shoshana Foundation for both Jewish Single Mothers and those in the broader community. Both accomplished in Business, the two are in sync with their mission to make a huge difference in the lives of others.

We thank Danny Mofsowitz, SAJBD Gauteng Chairperson, for being our Emcee and for always giving of her time to UJW despite her busy schedule.

Guests left feeling emotional and inspired and had a delicious tea.
Together we can always do more.
