Cotlands vision is to see children thrive in their pre-school years by offering play-based learning opportunities. Cotlands is a non-profit community that actively seeks to find solutions to real community problems. Our aim is to build capacity in caring for children.

Our Cotlands Mpumalanga team proudly showcased the power of play at the inaugural Mpumalanga NPO Expo 2026!

As one of the exhibitors, our team brought play-based learning to life, showcasing how educational toys and playful experiences help young children develop essential skills for a brighter future. 🧩👦🏽👧🏾

The Expo provided a fantastic opportunity to connect with fellow NPOs, potential partners and community stakeholders who share our passion for making a difference through play.

Each plays an important role in helping Cotlands strengthen the ECD ecosystem and improve the quality of early learning, so more children have the opportunity to learn, develop and thrive. 🌱

For Cotlands, impact isn’t simply measured by how many children are reached. It is measured by what changes for those children.

During our 2026 financial year, 91,539 children were reached through Cotlands’ ECD programmes, with school-readiness scores improving by 19%.

That distinction matters, because the real question for early childhood development isn’t only: “How many children did we reach?”. It is also: “Did our interventions help prepare them for the next stage of their learning journey?”.

For Cotlands, measuring outcomes against national school- readiness indicators provides a way to understand whether programmes are making a meaningful difference and where they need to improve.

Heritage Day was celebrated with joy across all our Cotlands sites and projects as our teams proudly wore beautiful traditional outfits that reflect South Africa’s rich cultural diversity.🇿🇦🧡

At Cotlands, we believe every child should grow up knowing that their heritage is something to celebrate. Through play, stories, songs and cultural activities, we help young children learn about the many cultures, languages and traditions that make our country so beautiful and unique, while encouraging them to be proud of who they are.

Here’s to celebrating the rich cultural fabric of South Africa and raising a generation that values, respects and embraces our diversity.

As we celebrated South Africa’s heritage, we also celebrated Cotlands’ rich heritage of 90 years of serving children. For nine decades, we’ve been creating brighter futures through quality play based early learning.

The first 1,000 days shape a lifetime. 🧡👶🏾

At Cotlands, we’re investing in children from the very beginning through our Birth-to-three Parenting Programme.

These playgroups give babies and toddlers the opportunity to learn through play while supporting parents with the knowledge and confidence to nurture their child’s development during the most important years of life.

Research, including the Heckman Curve, shows that investing in children in the first three years delivers the greatest long term returns. During this period, a child’s brain develops at an extraordinary rate, creating the foundation for learning, health, and wellbeing throughout life.

Our Gauteng Early Childhood Care and Education (ECCE) Hub came alive as we celebrated National Book Week through the power of stories and play.

Children explored exciting reading activities, strengthened their pre-reading and pre-writing skills, and developed their language and communication abilities in fun, engaging ways. Every story shared is another opportunity to grow curious minds, build confidence, and ignite a lifelong love of learning.
