Happy Youth Day, South Africa. 🧡🇿🇦

Today, we remember the bravery of the youth who shaped our nation’s future. 🇿🇦

As we honour the past and celebrate progress, we recommit to protecting the rights, dignity, and potential of every child.

A proud moment for the Cotlands team and a landmark day for early childhood development in South Africa.🧡🇿🇦

On International Day of Play, a day dedicated to advocating for every child’s right to play, Cotlands, in partnership with Jidmac, proudly launched its new Early Childhood Care and Education (ECCE) Hub in Princess, Roodepoort - a vibrant space designed to unlock the power of play and transform the lives of young children and those who care for them.

The launch programme featured inspiring addresses from Irene Chetty, Cotlands Head of Business Development; Nozizwe Dladla-Qwabe, COO of Cotlands; Ian Coetzee, CEO of Jidmac; and Fareda Franks, Chairperson of the Cotlands Board. Dr Monica Stach, CEO of Cotlands, delivered the vote of thanks.

The official orange ribbon-cutting ceremony marked the opening of a facility that will serve as a hub of learning, play and opportunity. Guests were taken on a tour of the new toy library, ECD centre and training centre, which will provide skills development and support for parents, caregivers, ECD practitioners and ECD centre owners.

We are deeply grateful to our partner, Jidmac, for sharing our vision and helping us build brighter futures, one child at a time. By working together, we are protecting play and protecting childhood. 👧🏾👦🏾👶🏾🤰🏾

🥳⏰ Just 1 day to go until International Day of Play! When was the last time you saw a child completely lost in play? Building a tower, creating an imaginary world, dancing to a song, solving a puzzle or sharing a laugh with friends?

These moments may seem simple, but they are shaping young minds, building confidence, strengthening relationships and laying the foundation for lifelong learning.

This year’s theme, “Protect Play, Protect Childhood,” reminds us that play is not a luxury; it is a fundamental right. Every child deserves the opportunity to play, explore, create and participate in cultural and creative activities that help them learn and thrive.

Let’s protect play. Let’s protect childhood. 🧡

We had an impactful week at the end of May, celebrating World Play Day (28 May) across our Cotlands regional offices and project-sponsored sites! 🌍🎉🧡

Children, caregivers, ECD practitioners and communities came together to celebrate the power of play in:
📍 Macassar, Western Cape
📍 Mashishing, Mpumalanga
📍 Mamelodi, Gauteng
📍 Hlabisa, KwaZulu-Natal
📍 Kuruman, Northern Cape
📍 Lephalale, Limpopo
📍 Southernwood, Eastern Cape

From storytelling and obstacle courses to construction play, arts and crafts, music, movement and inclusive play activities, children experienced the joy of learning through play in safe and stimulating environments.👧🏾👦🏾

At Cotlands, we believe that play is a fundamental right and an essential part of every child’s development. Through our new Early Childhood Care and Education (ECCE) hubs, we are planning to improve the quality of the play-based early learning opportunities we offer vulnerable children.

Every child deserves a safe place to learn, play and grow.🧡👦🏾👧🏾

As we observe Child Protection Week, Cotlands reaffirms its commitment to creating safe, clean and nurturing environments where children can thrive. Through our Early Childhood Care and Education Hubs consisting of Toy Libraries, Playgroups and Training Centres, we ensure that children’s wellbeing and safety remain at the heart of everything we do.

From maintaining safe play spaces and age-appropriate resources to training caregivers and practitioners, we work every day to safeguard children’s rights and create environments where young, at-risk children can reach their full potential.
