11 years of dedication, leadership, and heart. 💙

At the end of 2025, we bid a formal farewell to one of Bright Start’s longest-serving pillars, Goodwill Moyo, as he stepped down from our Board of Directors.

For over a decade, Goodwill has been more than just a board member. While his sharp strategic advice helped steer our organization through years of growth, his true legacy lies in the lives he touched directly. Goodwill generously gave his time to mentor young boys in our programs, standing as a role model, a listening ear, and a source of inspiration when they needed it most.

Goodwill, thank you for 11 incredible years of service. Your impact will be felt at Bright Start for generations to come! ✨

We are absolutely thrilled to officially welcome Nomfundo Manto, affectionately known to all of us as Nono, as one of our wonderful volunteers here at Bright Start! 💙

Nono’s journey with us has been incredibly inspiring. She first brought her passion for helping others to our Tutor Program at Kronendal. From there, she moved over to our main offices to continue tutoring our amazing beneficiaries.

It was during her time at the office that she fell completely in love with our energetic Grade 2 little ones. Witnessing their bright minds at work sparked something special in her, and she decided right then and there that teaching and helping them conquer their homework was exactly what she wanted to do! 📚✏️

With her extensive background in administrative care, her fluent communication, and her recently achieved Level 5 TEFL Diploma, we know our students are in the absolute best hands. Nono brings a solutions-driven mindset, an abundance of patience, and a deeply caring heart to our team.

Thank you, Nono, for dedicating your time, your energy, and your heart to shaping the futures of our little ones. We are so grateful to have you on this journey with us! 🎉✨

Happy Birthday, Sarah Nelson! 🥳🎂

Sarah has been a cornerstone of the Bright Start family for 14 amazing years. From teaching our little ones school readiness and the joy of reading, to keeping them active with fitness, games, and occupational therapy activities, her impact is truly immeasurable. ❤️

Through Sarah’s guidance, our learners haven't just learned how to count in 2s and 3s or read their first words, they’ve also learned invaluable life lessons like teamwork, patience, and how to be both a gracious winner and a good sport.

Sarah, you have watched our kids grow from eager learners into amazing young people, and the Hout Bay community is so much brighter because of you. 🌟

✨ A Wonderful Day with Virgin Wines! ✨

We kicked off an amazing visit from our CSI partners, Virgin Wines , on May 22nd the best way we know how, with a thrilling game of 30 Seconds! 🎲🎉 Everyone had an absolute blast, and it was truly amazing to watch how quickly everyone processed the clues and how brilliantly they explained things.

After the fun and games, it was time for some beautiful reconnections and tours. It was incredibly special for the Virgin Wines team to catch up with the children they have lovingly supported and visited over the last 5 years. 💙

We also took them on a journey through our community, including:

🏫 A school tour at Kronendal Primary School to see where some of our learners thrive daily.
We kicked off an amazing visit from our CSI partners, Virgin Wines, on May 22nd, the best way we know how, with a thrilling game of 30 Seconds! 🎲🎉 Everyone had an absolute blast, and it was truly amazing to watch how quickly everyone processed the clues and how brilliantly they explained things.
🌍 A community tour through Imizamo Yethu and Hangberg right here in Hout Bay.

The mid-year exam season is officially here! 📚✍️

Our primary school learners at Kronendal Primary School and our high schoolers at Wynberg Girls' High School and have all started their exams this week. We are already so proud of how hard they have been working to prepare.

To all our students: take a deep breath, trust your preparation, and remember that you’ve got this! 💪🌟

We’re here to help you shine. 💙
Whether you need to clear up a tricky concept, practice past papers, or just need a quiet space to focus, our doors are open. We will be dedicating our weekly tutoring sessions at the Bright Start office to focused exam prep and ongoing study support throughout the exam period.
