Help Us Build the Imizamo Library!

The Hout Bay Men’s Shed is proud to be assisting the IY community in creating a brand-new library — primarily for children, but open to everyone — right next to the church on Nelson Mandela Drive.

The building has already been redecorated, and electricity is being reinstalled. Now, we need your help to bring this special place to life.

We all know how powerful books can be — they open minds, spark imagination, and fuel growth at every age. Let’s give our young people (and the young at heart) a place to read, learn, and dream.

We’re asking the Hout Bay community to rally together and help us complete the library. We’re looking for:
Books for all ages
Furniture – tables, chairs, shelves, bookcases
A simple library management computer system

If you’re able to contribute in any way — big or small — please contact Richard Butterfield on 082 655 5427.

CAGING THE RUBBISH PROBLEMS IN IY

Hout Bay Men’s Shed has embarked on a project to address the litter crisis in IY by installing new rubbish cages. The rubbish cages will be built and erected to hold rubbish bags to prevent stray dogs from rummaging through waste leaving a mess and attracting rodents which in turn results in ill health. Richard Butterfield, a member of HBMS, confirmed that he first cage was recently installed. He added that the initiative was not only aimed at ensuring that the residents live in a healthier environment but also that they live in a cleaner, more beautiful community.

One of the community members, who lives nearby and has three young children said she was delighted with the new cage and applauded the efforts of the HBMS. Community leader, Kenny Tokwe, said IY residents welcomed the new cages.

Ward Councillor, Roberto Quintas, said a public private partnership such as the one between the City, Solid Waste Management and HBMS appears to be an effective waste management strategy.

Hout Bay Men;s Shed is appealing to businesses and residents of Hout Bay for contributions. The funds will be used for the development of additional cages across IY. Opportunities exist for businesses and organisations to advertise on the cages, turning community service into visibility.
