Our Young Scientists are ready to shine once again!

After winning silver medals and achieving success at previous Eskom Expo for Young Scientists events, our learners are preparing for this year’s District Expo on 9 May.

This year marks a proud milestone as 17 high school learners will join the journey for the very first time alongside our primary school students.

If you would like to support transport and catering costs for our learners attending the Expo, please consider donating here: https://masicorp.org/donate-new/

Wishing all our future scientists the very best of luck!

We’re proud to share a meaningful step forward in dignity, access, and opportunity.

Masicorp has partnered with the Foundation ZA to install sanitary towel dispensing machines at the Chasmay Campus and Ukhanyo Primary School.

These machines provide monthly packs of sanitary products through a simple token system, ensuring access is consistent and private.

At the Chasmay Campus, which is home to 12 community programmes and nonprofit organisations serving children and adults from Ocean View and Masiphumelele, tenant partners will work alongside Masicorp to distribute tokens to registered beneficiaries.

At Ukhanyo Primary, learners will access tokens through Masicorp’s Learning Labs, making it easier for young girls to manage their health with dignity while staying focused on their education.

This programme is about more than just products. It’s about removing barriers.
No one should have to miss school, work, or opportunity because they lack access to basic sanitary care.

Thanks to the incredible support of Streatham & Clapham High School in the UK, who have funded these distributions over the past few years, we’ve now been able to take this next step, introducing a system that prioritises privacy, dignity, and ease of access.

My favourite book is…” 💛

Today we celebrate the stories that inspire, comfort, and grow young minds.
These voices from Ukhanyo Primary School remind us why access to books matters.

The Legacy of John More Thompson: Co-Founder of Masicorp

Some people build careers. Others build communities.
John Thompson did both. And the lives he changed through Masicorp form a significant part of his remarkable legacy.

John died on March 30, 2026, after a long illness. While his loss is deeply felt, the impact of what he created continues every day in Masiphumelele through Masicorp, the organization he and his wife, Carol, co-founded in 1999.

While John and Carol spent most of their adult years working and raising their three children in the United States, John was born in the UK and Carol in South Africa. Upon retirement they decided to spend time again in South Africa, near the township of Masiphumelele. They were struck by both the challenges and the potential within the Masi community. Where many only saw need, John always saw possibility. He believed that lasting change doesn’t come from handouts, but from access to education, skills and opportunity. The belief that people rise when given the right tools was at the heart of everything John did.

What started as a small volunteer-driven initiative has grown into an organization that serves thousands of residents each year. In the beginning Masicorp built over 20 houses and a large library and sent children and young adults to better schools and university programs. Today, through early childhood development in our three preschools and affiliated programs, primary education enhancements in math, literacy and science, teacher training, computer skills development and numerous other programs, Masicorp has become a major platform for people to shape their own futures.

John was not a passive founder. He was deeply involved and constantly thinking about how to do more. He brought people together across countries and backgrounds building a community of supporters who shared his vision.

In recognition of his extraordinary contribution, John was honored in 2024 as a Member of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire (MBE) for service to a community in the Commonwealth with long-term impact.

John’s legacy lives in every student supported and every opportunity created. At Masicorp we see that legacy every day. John will be remembered as visionary and his remarkable work continues through all of us. He will be deeply missed.
