Exposure changes everything. 🌎
At The Advantage Program, we believe young people can’t aspire to what they’ve never seen, experienced, or been introduced to.
That’s why exposure is one of the core goals of our program.
We want our Shooting Stars to experience new places, meet new people, discover new opportunities, and explore new ideas.
A while back, several of our Shooting Stars, ages 14–17, stepped outside their usual environment and into the world of professional networking through an experience with members of the York Rotary.
They dressed the part.
They walked into a room full of people they didn’t know.
They participated in speed networking.
They shared a meal.
They joined the Rotary meeting.
And most importantly, they were exposed to something new.
For some, it may have been their first time sitting at a table with professionals, introducing themselves to new people, engaging in meaningful conversations, and seeing themselves in a space they may not have imagined entering.
And that’s the point.
Exposure expands vision.
You can’t always teach a young person to dream bigger by simply telling them to dream bigger.
Sometimes, you have to take them somewhere they’ve never been, introduce them to someone they’ve never met, and show them what’s possible.
These photos may be from a while ago, but the mission hasn’t changed.
We’re still exposing our young people to new places, new people, new experiences, and new possibilities.
Because when you change what a young person sees, you can change what they believe is possible for their life.
