As many folks know last year we were a sponsor of the the summer basketball league in Woonsocket. This league helps keep our kids busy and active and we and community hope free of violence. This season we will sponsor another team, only this time it’s a little different. Joey Ramos was once a young person who played basketball all around the city, and unfortunately was lost senselessly to violence. Much of how we continue to honor NyAsia of who all of our nonviolence work started and continued in, we will honor Joey this summer with the permission of his family. We must do better for our young people and our community. The jerseys will have a logo in “Baby Joe”’s Joey’s name. This type of violence is not normal. Parents speak to your young people and pay attention to what they are involved in.

Thank you Ethan Shorey insider news as we continue to work on bringing lunches back to the park, where the kids congregate.

Good afternoon! It seems there may be a site at the high school and Globe park for meals for the kids in the summer. However, Social park where we know most of our kids hang out will not be hosting one. Therefore, beginning July 7-Aug 7 we will be asking folks to help with either bagged lunches or any type of fruits etc to be able to assist with the children in the park. With cuts from the state and lack of investment in our public school there is no option but to make cuts that are painful. But with poverty in the city as it is with the kids, community really needs to come together on this. We will be hosting an informational meeting on June 10th at 6:00pm at Harris Library. We will also have on hand the latest statistics per the latest Kids Count Data regarding Woonsocket. Let’s make sure the kids have access to food in the park this summer.
Thank you

🚨This will be at either the Fairmount or Social

The Woonsocket district will not be providing free lunches over the summer for children in the park. This is a major cut for food to our young people. While all things financially can be considered a loss, with the children living in poverty in Woonsocket at 28% and extreme poverty at 15% many of our kids depend on school meals to provide nutrition. What folks aren’t understanding is that when you continue to push young people and families into deeper desperation they often turn to other means to be able support themselves and family. We are quick to blame our young people for the fighting and violence that they partake in, but not the symptom, which is poverty. We will be having a fundraiser in June to raise funds and food to get nutrition to our kids this summer. It really takes a the community to wrap around the kids. We will also be having our next nonviolence meeting. Sorry for the delay we were gathering all the data to present it at the meeting.
Thank you!

Isaiah continues to support us at Milagros as well as other organizations. Born and raised in Woonsocket he continues to shine as a young person.

Isaiah joined Boys & Girls Clubs of Northern Rhode Island in fifth grade, where he built friendships, found mentors, and discovered a passion for giving back. Inspired by our Woonsocket Clubhouse Director Bonnie and the community around him, he went on to volunteer regularly with the The Milagros Project, help run holiday grocery distributions for families in need, and support the Club's Christmas tree fundraiser for three years running.

Today, Isaiah is a college sophomore studying Business Management, and next semester, he's specializing in Entrepreneurship. He still plays baseball competitively and carries the lessons from the Club with him every step of the way.

"Seeing those same people every week and knowing we were actually making a difference, that brought a smile to my face. It gave me the sense that I could make a difference in the world."

This graduation season, we're celebrating alumni like Isaiah who prove that what starts at the Club can go anywhere. 🎓
