💙⚓ 60 Acts of Kindness for Scott's 60th Birthday ⚓💙

We are a little over a month away from July 21st, the day Scott would have celebrated his 60th birthday.

This year, I'd love for us to honor his memory the way he lived his life—by helping others. Our goal is simple: 60 acts of kindness in honor of Scott's 60 years.

Whether it's buying someone a coffee, helping a neighbor, thanking a first responder, donating to a cause, sending an encouraging note, or simply making someone smile, every act counts.

After you complete your act of kindness, please share a photo or story on the page called Scott's Paying It Forward so we can celebrate together and see the impact Scott's legacy continues to have on others.

For my Rhode Island friends, I am having copies of the attached card printed. If you would like one (or several) to hand out as part of your Pay It Forward gesture, please let me know and I'll make sure you get them.

Let's see if we can reach 60 acts of kindness on July 21st and show that Scott's spirit of giving is still making a difference every day.

❤️ Go Big or Go Home.

Thank you to the New England Patriots and the Boston Bruins for your generous silent auction donations and support. We are especially excited to welcome the Bruins as a first-time donor to our event.

As Scott was a lifelong New England sports fan, as well as myself, these donations are truly appreciated and will help make our event even more memorable. Thank you for your kindness and generosity.

🎉 Sponsorship Opportunities Now Available! 🎉

The DeCoste Memorial Foundation is excited to announce sponsorship opportunities for our 2026 Comedy Night Fundraiser on October 3rd at the Italian Workingmen's Club in Woonsocket, Rhode Island.

As we celebrate 10 years of honoring Senior Chief Scott DeCoste's legacy, this event marks an exciting new chapter as we expand our programs to support students, veterans, military families, service dog recipients, and community members in need.

We have sponsorship opportunities available for businesses and individuals at multiple levels, including a special Hampton Roads Sponsor opportunity recognizing the Virginia military and business community that helped shape the Foundation's first decade.

Whether you're a Rhode Island business, a Hampton Roads supporter, or simply someone who believes in giving back, we'd be honored to have you join us.

Please see the attached sponsorship information and event flyer for details. If you have questions or would like to become a sponsor, feel free to send us a message or email us at [email protected].

Thank you for helping us continue Scott's legacy of service and his motto: "Go Big or Go Home." ❤️🇺🇸

SAVE THE DATE!!!!!

This special event marks two exciting milestones:

✔️ Celebrating 10 years since the founding of the Senior Chief Scott DeCoste Memorial Scholarship Inc.
✔️ Our first major fundraising event under our new public-facing identity, the DeCoste Memorial Foundation

As we look ahead to the next decade, this event represents both a celebration of our history and the launch of an exciting new chapter.

We are proud to partner with Funny 4 Funds for an evening of laughter, community, and purpose.

Sponsorship opportunities, ticket information, and additional event details will be announced soon. If you are interested in volunteering or donating a raffle item, please reach out!

Thank you to everyone who has supported our mission over the past ten years. We look forward to celebrating with you.

Slowly but surely, the new branding for the DeCoste Memorial Foundation is coming together!

Our new flyer features one of my favorite photos, taken by Sgt. Pickering of the Norfolk (Virginia) Police Department during our very first Pay It Forward event with them. It captures Alexis alongside members of NPD and perfectly reflects what this initiative is all about—community, kindness, and remembering that one person can make a difference.

I especially love that he incorporated Scott's motto, "Go Big or Go Home," along with the Paying It Forward theme that has become such an important part of our mission.

For those who remember the Norfolk Police Department's viral Bruno Mars lip-sync challenge, Sgt. Pickering was one of the key featured officers in the video!

We're continuing to build momentum. Shirts and event tablecloth are currently in production, and tomorrow I'll be signing the contract for our upcoming Comedy Night Fundraiser. If all goes according to plan, we should be announcing the date by the end of the weekend.

What a great night at Woonsocket High School!

For the first time in 10 years, I didn’t have to leave the awards ceremony early to catch an o’dark-thirty flight back to Virginia Beach the next morning. It was wonderful to be able to stay and enjoy the entire evening.

Unfortunately, we were only able to get a picture with one of this year’s scholarship recipients, Jeremy Dubois, but it was an honor to recognize all of the students.

One thing made the night feel especially meaningful. In the 10 years I’ve been presenting the scholarship (and I’ve only missed two ceremonies), there has never been a Navy recruiter in attendance. Tonight was Alexis’ first time attending with me, and lo and behold, the local Woonsocket Navy recruiter was there.

For those who may not know, from 2001–2003, Scott served as the Recruiter in Charge for Rhode Island and Southeastern Massachusetts. Seeing a Navy recruiter there on Alexis’ first year felt like a little God wink from Scott.

Maybe it was his way of letting Alexis know he was proud of her… despite the fact that she bailed on giving the speech and left me to do it myself! 😂❤️⚓

Congratulations again to this year’s recipients, and thank you to everyone who continues to support the mission of the DeCoste Memorial Foundation and the legacy Scott left behind.

Looking for recommendations! 👕

As part of the recent rebranding of the DeCoste Memorial Foundation, I'm looking for a local company that can help us with embroidered polo shirts and printed t-shirts for board members, volunteers, and community events.

While I know there are plenty of large online vendors, I'd much rather support a local mom-and-pop business if possible.
The Foundation is a federally recognized 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, and I can provide tax-exempt documentation.

If you've had a great experience with a local embroidery or screen-printing company in Rhode Island (or nearby Massachusetts), I'd love to hear your recommendations!

Thank you in advance for helping us continue to grow our mission of supporting military, veteran, Gold Star, and service-connected families. 🇺🇸💙⚓

I am so excited to finally share the front and back our new DeCoste Memorial Foundation tri-fold brochures!
What started as a single scholarship in Scott's memory has grown into something so much bigger over the last 10 years. Seeing our mission, programs, and vision all come together in a professional brochure is both humbling and exciting.
From scholarships and youth activity grants to service dog support, emergency assistance, and our Pay It Forward initiative, we're continuing to find new ways to honor Scott's legacy and support military, veteran, Gold Star, and service-connected families.
A HUGE thank you to everyone who has supported us along the way. This is just the beginning of the next chapter.
