Volunteers Needed to Help Flag Veterans’ Graves

Hello everyone,

The United Veterans Council is requesting your help. Friday May 22nd at 530PM (TODAY!!!)

As some members of our organization have gotten older, we are no longer able to flag our comrades’ graves as we once did. We are asking for volunteers to assist AMVETS Post 7 with this important effort.

This is a great opportunity for anyone who needs to complete mandated community service hours.

Once all veterans’ graves have been flagged, there will be pizza, soda, and water served at Precious Blood Cemetery.

Things to bring:

Gloves
A long pole about the size of a golf club shaft
This will help poke holes in the ground to make flag placement easier
A children’s wagon (optional)
Helpful for carrying flags instead of lugging them in your arms
Sunblock
Bug spray (just in case)
And a smile 😊
We will also have water, soda and pizza available.

Volunteers Needed 🇺🇸

Help AMVETS Post 7 & the United Veterans Council flag veterans’ graves:
We will be starting at 5:30 PM at Precious Blood Cemetery, on the corner of Diamond Hill RD Woonsocket, RI.

Please meet us at Precious Blood at the CENTER MONUMENT (SEE FLYER). You will see a couple of tables. If for some reason you don't see us feel free to text/call (401) 365-9178.

Need community service hours? Letters can be made available. All ages are welcome!!!

Suggested Items to Bring:
Gloves, sunblock, bug spray, bring a long screwdriver if you have them. This will assist you in setting the flag's stem in the ground.

We will have Pizza, soda, and water provided! Bring some friends!!!

YES!!! We were ORIGINALLY going to meet at St Jeans, but we had day volunteers that finished St. Jeans much faster than we thought. So huge thank you to Greg, his family and Friends of Oak Hill. Another Shout out to Brian!!! Ty so much. See you at Precious Blood!!!

Honoring Our Heroes:
Woonsocket Military Banner Program Expands

The City of Woonsocket, in partnership with the United Veterans Council of Greater Woonsocket (UVC), is expanding its Military Banner Program with 30 new banners to honor residents who have served our nation with honor.

Where banners are displayed:
Banners are displayed on streets in Woonsocket & WWII Park
Who is eligible:
• You are invited to sponsor a banner honoring yourself or a loved one (living or deceased) who:
• Served in the United States Armed Forces
• Received an honorable discharge
• Has lived in Woonsocket at some point in their life
Cost and impact:
• $175 per banner
• A large portion of proceeds support the UVC mission to assist Woonsocket Veterans, Families in Crisis
Program details:
• Banners are displayed year-round, with special emphasis during Memorial Day and Veterans Day
• Each banner is guaranteed at least one full year of display
• As space is needed, banners will be rotated in as new banners are created (After one year being flown)
• When space becomes available for reinstallation, families may continue participation with a $75 donation.

IMPORTANT DEADLINES:
ALL ENTRIES MUST BE SUBMITTED BY MAY 14TH.

DINNER RECOGNITION EVENT:
After this new group of 30 banners is completed, the UVC will host a Special Dinner/Fundraiser honoring all banner recipients who passed, present, and future. (date and location to be announced). We are aiming for after Memorial Day, and the dinner is expected to serve as both a fundraiser and a dedication to ALL the VETERANS & families honored through the program.

Sponsors welcome:
The UVC welcomes business and individual sponsors, including supporters such as ALLMARK (banner printing), Broad Street Garage, and Senator Murray. Donations may fully or partially sponsor a banner for a deserving family. Corporate sponsors will be recognized on the UVC website, Facebook, flyers, and social media—and may have the opportunity to speak at the dinner.
