Programs and services at Riverzedge include:

Arts & Business Entrepreneurship: Youth run micro-businesses in five art and design studios (SCREENworks, DESIGNworks, DIGITALworks, VISUALart, and GREENdesign), creating public works and client projects while developing marketable workforce skills, completing high school or earning a GED, applying for college, and receiving an educational stipend. Sum

mer Placemaking Workforce Initiative: Teen artists work with partner organizations to complete large-scale public art, design and community improvement projects. Expanded Learning Opportunities: Students earn high school credit through independent learning projects completed with professional mentors outside of school hours. Mobile Studio: Innovative and customizable art and design classes for primarily low-income K-12 schools, adults, business groups, and more. After Hours: Free evening classes and open help labs for middle and high school students in media, entrepreneurship, and the arts. Parent Leadership Training Institute: A parent engagement program in which parents learn to advocate for children and develop skills in civics, democracy, and leadership.

Painting: Watercolor & Gouache with Jordan Rhodes!
July 8 - July 29
Wednesdays, 6:30 - 9pm

In this 4-week class, you’ll work with a professional painter to learn the fundamentals of watercolor and gouache painting and related techniques. You’ll create your own custom projects on paper and learn the fundamentals associated with multiple types of painting. Cost includes all materials.

Jordan is a visual artist based in Pawtucket, Rhode Island, with a background in chemistry, whose practice grew from a personal outlet during graduate school into a full creative career with clients including Strathmore, Princeton Brushes, Sktchy, Columbia Records, Disney Plus, and Grammy-nominated artist D Smoke. Working in traditional and digital media with a focus on gouache and portraiture, Jordan brings both technical discipline and a curiosity-driven approach to every project.

Woodworking with Seth Giguere!
Saturday, July 11 - Sunday, July 12
9am - 3pm

We’ll teach you how to make a toolbox with a handle for your garden tools or other items. In this two-day workshop, you’ll learn how to use a table saw, miter saw, planer, and drill press, along with a variety of hand tools and clamps. The small number of seats available means that you’ll receive plenty of individual help so that you leave with a completed project.

Giguere has been an avid woodworker since high school. From grades 10 – 12, he was enrolled in the Facilities, Operations, and Management (FOM) Vocational program at West Warwick High School, graduating at the top of the FOM program in 2021. At age 15, he bought his first lathe – by age 16, a table saw. Giguere has been fine tuning his woodworking craft ever since.

At the start of our spring session in March, the AWT Public Art studio team was tasked with redesigning the logo for Blue Door Athletics - and they knocked it out of the park!

In just two weeks, our teens learned the fundamentals of logo design, then each produced two sketches of their concept. 20 sketches were narrowed down to the final 3, then to the final design. We owe a huge shoutout to our AWT teen, Fabriny, for her amazing design that was selected by the CEO and board of the Boys and Girls Club of Northern Rhode Island. Congratulations, Fabriny!

From there, our Public Art Studio Coordinator, Maya, and former AWT Screenprint member, Eden, printed over 330 t-shirts for Blue Door Athletics staff to wear. Shoutout to our current AWT member, Ray for being the guard of the conveyor dryer!
