What an incredible Saturday with our Mental Health Mentors program! We had a packed house as Danielle led an engaging session on Wellness Action Recovery Planning (WRAP), helping participants explore emotional wellness, self-awareness, healthy coping skills, and the importance of recognizing and expressing emotions.

A special thank you to East Side Aligned for providing a welcoming space where our youth can learn, grow, build connections, and develop the tools they need to thrive. We are grateful for partners who share our commitment to supporting the next generation and strengthening our community.

The future is bright, and we are excited to see these young leaders continue to grow.

💚 Help Us Grow Our Mental Health Outreach Efforts! 💙

Did you know that NAMI Southwestern Illinois is a locally funded nonprofit? While we are part of the larger NAMI network, our affiliate relies on grants, donations, fundraising events, memberships, and community support to continue providing free mental health education, support groups, advocacy, and outreach throughout our region.

We've created an Amazon Wish List filled with items that will help us expand our outreach efforts, attend more community events, improve our presentations, and reach more individuals and families affected by mental health conditions.

If you're looking for a simple way to support our mission, consider purchasing an item from our Wish List. Every item—big or small—helps us continue bringing hope, education, and support to our communities.

Thank you for believing in mental health, reducing stigma, and helping us make a difference right here in Southwestern Illinois. 💚

A special shout-out to our amazing volunteer, Rachel, for helping represent NAMI Southwestern Illinois at the East St. Louis Youth Football Camp today! Thank you for spending your time connecting with families, sharing resources, and helping us spread the message that mental health matters.

We were honored to be alongside community partners and NFL player Antonio Johnson Jr. as we engaged youth and families in conversations about wellness, resilience, and hope. Volunteers like Rachel help make our mission possible, and we are grateful for her dedication to our community.

Tardive Dyskinesia (TD) is more than just involuntary movements—it can impact every part of a person's life.

For many people, TD causes uncontrollable movements of the face, mouth, tongue, hands, arms, or body. These symptoms can make it difficult to speak clearly, eat comfortably, maintain employment, drive, or even feel confident in social situations.

Beyond the physical symptoms, many individuals experience embarrassment, isolation, anxiety, and a loss of independence. That's why awareness matters. If you or someone you love is taking medication that may increase the risk of TD, having open conversations with healthcare providers is important.

Understanding leads to compassion, and compassion helps reduce stigma. 💚

NAMI Southwestern Illinois is proud to be at East St. Louis Senior High School today for the Youth Football Camp, joining Antonio Johnson Jr. of the Jacksonville Jaguars, community leaders, and partner agencies to promote mental health awareness and connect with local youth and families.
Events like this remind us that mental health is just as important as physical health. By meeting young people where they are, building relationships, and creating safe spaces for conversation, we help reduce stigma and encourage hope, resilience, and support.
A special thank you to our incredible volunteers who give their time, energy, and compassion to make events like this possible. Your commitment to our community helps us reach more people and spread the message that no one has to face mental health challenges alone.
