MODERN DAY SLAVERY: A HORRIFIC INJUSTICE THAT DEMANDS OUR ATTENTION AND ACTION!
I know this is long but it's IMPORTANT info! For the past 14 years, I have passionately and fervently dedicated myself voluntarily to educating others, advocating for victims, and being part of the solution in the fight against modern day slavery, one of the most horrific human rights injustices of our time.
This mission is deeply personal to me. I have witnessed the devastating realities of human trafficking, but I have also seen the incredible difference that education, awareness, intervention, and compassionate individuals can make in the lives of victims and survivors.
I remain as passionate and committed to this fight today as I was 14 years ago!
My heartfelt prayer is that more individuals, churches, businesses, and organizations will recognize the urgency of this crisis and understand the importance of financially supporting those of us working on the front lines.
THE REALITY OF MODERN DAY SLAVERY IS STAGGERING!
49.6 MILLION PEOPLE: Approximately 49.6 million individuals worldwide are trapped in modern slavery, including 12 million children.
$150 BILLION TO $173 BILLION: Forced commercial s*xual exploitation and human trafficking generate over $150 billion to $173 billion in illegal profits annually.
WOMEN AND CHILDREN ARE ESPECIALLY VULNERABLE: Women and girls account for 54% to 57% of modern slavery and forced labor victims and represent the vast majority of commercial s*x trafficking victims.
Children account for approximately 20% to 38% of identified trafficking victims globally.
HOW DOES HUMAN TRAFFICKING HAPPEN?
Traffickers exploit vulnerable individuals through three primary methods: FORCE, FRAUD, AND COERCION, compelling victims into forced labor, services, or commercial s*xual exploitation.
FORCE: Traffickers use physical violence, s*xual assault, and threats of harm to control their victims. These threats may extend to family members or others close to the victim, making the fear of retaliation even more powerful.
FRAUD: Traffickers frequently lure victims through deception and false promises. These may include opportunities for education, romantic relationships, employment, good wages, scheduled days off, debt repayment, financial support for loved ones, or the promise of a safer, more secure future.
What initially appears to be an opportunity for a better life can quickly become a devastating situation of exploitation from which escape seems impossible.
COERCION: Traffickers use both subtle manipulation and overt intimidation to establish and maintain control.
Common tactics include confiscating identification documents, threatening arrest or deportation, inhumane treatment, blackmail, humiliation, isolation, exploiting addiction, and financial manipulation.
Economic coercion may involve exploiting existing debts or deliberately creating financial obligations that keep victims trapped in exploitation.
THIS IS NOT JUST HAPPENING SOMEWHERE ELSE. IT IS HAPPENING IN OUR COMMUNITIES ACROSS OUR NATION AND AROUND THE WORLD.
Behind every statistic is a human being. Someone’s daughter, son, mother, father, sister, or brother. A life that matters. A person deserving of freedom, dignity, safety, and hope.
AWARENESS IS IMPORTANT, BUT AWARENESS ALONE IS NOT ENOUGH. ACTION IS ESSENTIAL!
Education helps individuals recognize warning signs, identify potential victims, understand trafficking tactics, and respond appropriately. It is a critical part of prevention and intervention.
For 14 years, I have remained committed to this mission, and I have no intention of slowing down.
But continuing this work, expanding educational opportunities, reaching more communities, and helping connect victims with life changing resources requires financial support.
➡️ I have another important opportunity but needing $500 to commit. It's all travel costs and not a penny goes in my pocket.
