Bistro Concert this Friday...

One Street Over is a 5-person Celtic roots band from Wi******er, Virginia. Known for their dynamic blend of traditional and original tunes and ballads, their music weaves the rich sounds of vocals, Irish flute, fiddle, cello, bouzouki, mandolin, guitar, mandocello, and bodhrán.

Meeting in a pub in rural Virginia, they played together for months before realizing they lived just "one street over" from each other. A musician in the crowd called out, "That sounds like a great band name!" and so it was.

When the pandemic brought pub performances to a halt, the group took to the studio, producing two albums, Beyond the Gate and Ridge and Valley, and transitioning to larger stages. With backgrounds in diverse musical genres—including classical, bluegrass, and punk rock—these musicians offer captivating, toe-tapping tunes that resonate with the ears and heart.

‍Bistro Concerts are open to the public, with a $10 fee (CASH ONLY, PLEASE). SVWC is located at 300 Westminster-Canterbury Dr., and the Bistro Concerts are sponsored by Atlantic Union Bank. For further information, call 540-665-0156.

The June "Culture Change Champion" is our Chaplain, Bill Everhart!

Bill exemplifies the culture change we strive to see here through his resident-centered approach, consistently prioritizing the emotional and spiritual well-being of those in our community, especially in memory care.

He always accommodates those living in our Blue Ridge, Healthcare, and Wappacomo neighborhoods, making sure they have copies of the worship bulletin if they are unable to attend the service in person, and keeping activity staff updated on events they would like to attend. Bill also takes time each week to connect with the residents in a musically spiritual way by sharing his singing and instrumental skills.

Chaplain Bill demonstrates flexibility and responsiveness by meeting residents where they are, always following up with residents who request chaplain support, and communicating thoughtfully during times of loss, fostering dignity and empathy. Through his collaborative spirit, respectful communication to ALL residents, and commitment to individualized spiritual care, Bill helps create an environment that is inclusive, relationship-focused, and rooted in compassion, making him a strong example of what it means to be a Culture Change Champion at SVWC.

We thank him sincerely for his support of our SVWC staff and residents!
