Five years ago today, as the United States withdrew from Afghanistan, the lives of thirteen outstanding young Americans were cut short by a terrorist. Their memories reside in hearts, and they live forever with our Lord.

From Yellowstone to Yosemite, our national parks preserve more than breathtaking landscapes. They preserve the stories, places and moments that have shaped America.

In Episode 5 American Moments with Oliver North, we explore the history behind our national parks and the creation of the National Park Service, celebrating the natural beauty and American stories protected for generations to come.

Meet U.S. Army Staff Sergeant Eric Tanu 🇺🇸

Eric joined the U.S. Army in 2019 and deployed to Kuwait a couple years later as a military police officer. In October 2024, he was critically injured when the military vehicle he was driving struck a tree while returning from training.

After more than five months of hospitalization and rehabilitation, Eric returned home to Brandywine, Maryland, where he lives with his wife and three young daughters. He continues to recover and adapt to life with limited mobility.

On Wednesday, Freedom Alliance will present Eric with an all-terrain wheelchair to help increase his independence and make it easier to enjoy experiences with his family.

As Eric shared, “This wheelchair will make a real difference in my daily life by giving me greater independence and mobility.”

For our America 250 initiative, Freedom Alliance scholarship students were invited to write about a moment in American history they wished they could have experienced firsthand.

We received hundreds of fantastic and inspiring essays. Many students wrote about Dr. Martin Luther King’s iconic “I Have a Dream” speech in 1968. These essays inspired a special weekend in Atlanta, where students – all children of military heroes - explored historic places, visited the Dr. King Museum, connected with one another and reflected on the stories which shaped our country.

Through conversation, exploration and time together, students had the opportunity to take their learning beyond the classroom and experience history in a new way.

"One of the most memorable trips I've taken." - Roman Burks

We're grateful to our scholars for bringing their curiosity, questions and perspectives to the experience.

Fourteen years after losing both legs in an IED explosion in Afghanistan, U.S. Army Corporal Corey Garmon is getting back to the activities he loves. His new All-Terrain Wheelchair will help him navigate the woods, enjoy the outdoors with his family, and travel across the sand at the beach alongside his wife and children.

“This chair will give me greater independence and the opportunity to make memories with my family that might not otherwise be possible.”

And while Superman may be along for the ride, Corey is the real hero.

Earlier this year, Freedom Alliance received a sponsorship request from Shawn Reed, Committee Chair, in support of the 20th reunion of the 172nd Stryker Brigade Combat Team Memorial Tribute.

Known as the “Arctic Wolves,” the brigade was deployed to Mosul in August 2005 for a standard 12-month rotation but faced an unexpected change of mission in July 2006. The deployment was extended to a grueling 16-month mission in Baghdad, operating in the blistering heat rather than the sub-zero temperatures of Alaska. Their extraordinary achievements came at a devastating cost.

The reunion brought together more than 350 attendees, including dozens of Gold Star Family members.

Shawn later added, "Thank you and Freedom Alliance so much for your contribution. This reunion/memorial tribute had over 350 attendees. Additionally, we had Senator Dan Sullivan attend and speak our tribute dinner. More importantly, we had dozens of Gold Star Family attend and were showered with honor and respect for what they have sacrificed and endured.

This special event wouldn’t have been successful without the support of Freedom Alliance, and it’s important to also acknowledge that many of our veterans have been the beneficiaries of Freedom Alliance over the years. In fact, I contacted you at the recommendation of one of those veterans. It’s an incredible gift that you provide, and we are sincerely grateful for the honor, support and character of such a great organization."

We are honored to support those who have served our nation and the families who have carried the weight of their sacrifice.

We heard it's National Nonprofit Day and we love an excuse to celebrate the people who make our mission possible.

Every veteran supported, military family served, scholarship granted, and opportunity created is made possible because people like you choose to give their time, resources, and support.

A few weeks ago we received a request for support and resources for Soldiers stationed in a location with limited access and movement restrictions.

With the help of the New Brockton High School JROTC cadets and their families, we filled Gifts from Home care packages with personal-care and morale items, snacks, and handwritten notes of encouragement.

Those packages traveled oversees and made it to our Soldiers, delivering a little piece of home and a reminder that they are supported and appreciated.

U.S. Army Corporal Corey Garmon lost both legs after stepping on an IED while serving in Afghanistan. After years of recovery and adapting to life as a double amputee, Corey is now looking forward to more time outdoors with his wife, Megan, and their two children.

Freedom Alliance recently presented Corey with a new all-terrain wheelchair, giving him greater mobility and independence for family adventures and the activities he loves.

FOX54 News Huntsville aired Corey's story yesterday. Watch now and see what this new freedom means to him and his family.

Along the trail in Colorado’s Flat Tops, veterans carried small American flags honoring service members who made the ultimate sacrifice.

Each flag served as a reminder that their stories and sacrifices will never be forgotten.
