The Sertão Training Center continues to grow and develop!

This is a space of true transformation for the next generation. That new buildout has strengthened and expanded the supporting program offerings for the community members. There are now 3 dedicated rooms for tutoring, literacy classes, extracurricular activities organized as:
* Jiu-jitsu
* Kids up to 8 years old
* Pre-teens

Congrats to the local leadership team there for their consistent dedication and service. They are continuing to advance more and more; creating opportunities for growth, mentorship, discipline, and community impact through every class, every student and community member.

Big milestone for our Haiti education programs!

DreamRoot recently delivered 6 Dell desktop computers to the school led by local leaders Rose and David in Les Cayes, Haiti, bringing the school’s total computer lab to 10 computers.

As the school expands into high school grades, students now have greater access to digital literacy, Microsoft Office training, research tools, and technology skills that will help prepare them for future education and career opportunities.

What makes this especially meaningful is that this journey started 6 years ago with just a few tablets introduced into classrooms through DreamRoot donor support. Today, that early investment has grown into a thriving technology initiative that is helping bridge the digital divide for hundreds of students.

Rose and David are already dreaming bigger, beyond the minimum school requirements:
• Introducing computer classes earlier for younger students
• Expanding professional and workforce-ready skills
• Exploring AI literacy and modern research tools

We believe every child deserves access to quality education and the tools needed to thrive in today’s world.

We've seen how BJJ has the ability to overcome barriers and catalyze human flourishing in some of the toughest locations. These programs build far more than technique. The mats are where character and community are formed that spark transformation that extends into families, schools, businesses, regions and generations. The academy is where connections are made that lead to unexpected opportunities. The leaders and commuity members are the engine who propels it all forward.

Why participatory planning produces better outcomes:

Research in organizational development consistently shows that strategies co-created across hierarchies outperform those designed at the top and communicated downward.

They anticipate obstacles their leaders may not see, and they advocate for the plan inside their own networks. Ownership is the multiplier that no slide deck can manufacture. The planning process itself is an intervention, not just a means to a plan.

Jiu jitsu academies in underserved communities function as more than sports programs. They are structured environments for key functions like character formation, trust-building, and social capital that serve as the foundation for individual and regional development. The mat creates conditions that are rare in many of these local contexts: opportunity through skill and effort rather than privilege, a culture of mentorship, accountability, repeated exposure to challenge and recovery.
