Meet our new Catmosphere Fellow with Conservation Nation: Julee Jerang 🌍🐅

Catmosphere is proud to welcome Julee Jerang, an Indigenous Researcher from India, into the Fellowship program.

Her work is deeply personal — rooted in her own identity and community. Julee is from the Bori community in Siang District, Arunachal Pradesh, India — and she’s studying how cultural change and shifting human presence are influencing Bori connections to wildlife, including the long revered tiger.

She’s the first from her community to pursue a Ph.D. and she learned about this fellowship through our past Fellow, Deepshikha Sharma — a reminder of what it means when women in conservation lift each other up.

Meet our new Catmosphere Fellow with Conservation Nation: Andrea Thomen 🌍🐦

Catmosphere is proud to welcome Andrea Thomen, a Conservation Biologist from the Dominican Republic, into the Fellowship program.

The threatened Hispaniolan Amazon and Hispaniolan Parakeet are one of the most endangered bird groups on Earth 🦜🌿. Now, as a Catmosphere Fellow with Conservation Nation, Andrea is helping communities protect these parrots through science, education, and local action. 🌱✨

Catmosphere Fellowship with Conservation Nation: Welcoming a New Cohort 🌍🐾

Exciting news! Through our partnership with Conservation Nation, Catmosphere is proud to welcome three new inspiring Fellows, who are driving meaningful impact in wildlife conservation and community-led action around the world.

🇩🇴 Andrea Thomen — working to save Hispaniolan parrots, among the most vulnerable bird groups in the world, in the Dominican Republic
🇮🇳 Julee Jerang — is studying rural-to-urban migration among the indigenous Bori people in Arunachal Pradesh, India �
🇿🇼 Nicorll Maenzanise — is protecting lions in Zimbabwe through monitoring and engaging the local community to promote wildlife coexistence

زمالة كاتموسفير و كونزيرفيشن نيشن: شراكة من أجل أثر مستدام 🌍🐾

من خلال شراكتنا مع كونزيرفيشن نيشن، تدعم كاتموسفير رواداً ملهمين في مجال الحفاظ على البيئة، والذين يُحدثون أثراً حقيقياً في مجال حماية الحياة البرية.

🇹🇿 يامات لينغاي، التي أنهت زمالتها في مارس ٢٠٢٤، سافرت عبر شمال تنزانيا مع African People & Wildlife، حيث عملت على الحد من الصراع بين الإنسان والحياة البرية وتعزيز التعايش بين المجتمعات المحلية والقطط الكبيرة. كما قامت بتدريب الرعاة، ودعمت تركيب ٥٠ “جداراً حياً” لحماية الماشية، وساهمت في توعية المجتمعات بالدور الحيوي الذي تلعبه الأسود في الحفاظ على توازن النظم البيئية الصحية.

🇮🇳 ديبشيكا شارما، التي أنهت زمالتها في يناير ٢٠٢٥، تقود مبادرة “النساء من أجل النمر الثلجي” في جبال الهيمالايا، والتي تهدف إلى تمكين النساء المحليات ليصبحن مراقِبات لتجمعات النمور الثلجية. ومن خلال زمالة كاتموسفير بالتعاون مع كونزيرفيشن نيشن، استطاعت ديبشيكا تدريب ٣٠ امرأة في ٤ قرى، والمساهمة في تصنيف أكثر من مليون صورة للنمور الثلجية، إضافةً إلى مراقبة ٨٣ نمراً ثلجياً بشكل فردي.

Catmosphere Fellowship with Conservation Nation: A Partnership for Impact 🌍🐾

Through our partnership with Conservation Nation, Catmosphere supports inspiring conservationists creating meaningful impact in wildlife conservation.

🇹🇿 Yamat Lengai, who completed her Fellowship in March 2024, traveled across northern Tanzania with African People & Wildlife, working to reduce human-wildlife conflict and build coexistence between communities and big cats. She trained herders, supported the installation of 50 Living Walls to protect livestock, and educated communities on the vital role lions play in healthy ecosystems.

🇮🇳 Deepshikha Sharma, who completed her Fellowship in January 2025, leads the Women for Snow Leopard initiative in the Himalayas, empowering local women to become monitors of snow leopard populations. Through the Catmosphere with Conservation Nation Fellowship, Deepshikha was able to train 30 women across 4 villages, tagging over 1 million snow leopard images, and monitoring 83 individual snow leopards.

Today is a reminder that thousands of species are at risk of disappearing forever. Protecting biodiversity is not only about saving wildlife—it is about preserving the delicate balance of life on Earth.

According to the IUCN, at least 47,000 species are currently threatened with extinction. Each loss weakens the ecosystems that sustain us all. All of our wellbeing is interconnected. 🐾🌿👥🌎

يُذكّرنا هذا اليوم بآلاف الأنواع المُعرّضة لخطر الانقراض. إن حماية التنوع البيولوجي لا تقتصر على إنقاذ الحياة البرية فحسب، بل تتعداها إلى الحفاظ على التوازن الدقيق للحياة على كوكب الأرض.
