جولي هي إحدى زميلاتنا في برنامج زمالة كاتموسفير و كونزيرفيشن نيشن، وهي أول شخص من مجتمع بوري يتابع دراسة دكتوراه متعددة التخصصات. 🎓
تجمع جولي بين العلم والمعارف التقليدية، وتبحث في كيف تُعيد الهجرة من الريف إلى المدينة تشكيل العلاقة بين مجتمعات السكان الأصليين والحياة البرية والغابات التي يتشاركونها. 🌿🤝

Among the Bori, an indigenous community in Northeast India, tigers aren’t just animals; they’re relatives. Spirits in an ancestral forest. 🐅🌳

Julee is one of our Catmosphere with Conservation Nation Fellows and the first person from her Bori community to pursue an interdisciplinary PhD. 🎓

Her work bridges science and tradition, exploring how migration from rural to urban life is reshaping the relationship between Indigenous communities, wildlife, and the forests they share. 🌿🤝

🔬 Her research will be the first in-depth tiger study in her community’s homeland.

⚠️ يوجد ببغاء هيسبانيولا الأمازوني وببغاء براكيت هيسبانيولا فقط في جزيرة هيسبانيولا، وكلاهما يواجه خطراً متزايداً. فبعد أن كانا منتشرين على نطاق واسع، أصبح وجودهما اليوم محصوراً في مواقع قليلة.

🦜 ببغاء هيسبانيولا الأمازوني — طائر محبوب في مختلف أنحاء جمهورية الدومينيكان، لكن شعبيته أدت إلى زيادة اصطياده بشكل غير قانوني والاتجار به كطائر أليف.
🦜 ببغاء براكيت هيسبانيولا — يتراجع وجوده في الغابات، لكنه يجد ملاذاً غير متوقع في المدن.

Did you know that the biggest threat to the Dominican Republic’s endemic parrots is that people like them too much? 💔🦜

⚠️ The Hispaniolan amazon and Hispaniolan parakeet are found only on Hispaniola — and both are in trouble. Once widespread, they now survive in just a few locations.

🦜 Hispaniolan amazon — beloved across the DR, but its popularity has fuelled illegal capture for the pet trade.
🦜 Hispaniolan parakeet — vanishing from forests, yet finding unexpected refuge in cities.

💚 Catmosphere with Conservation Nation Fellow Andrea Thomen is working to make sure both species have a future — in the forest and beyond it.

بدأت مسيرة أندريا تومن في مجال الحفاظ على البيئة في سن الخامسة، من خلال مسابقة فنون بيئية قادتها إلى غابات كوستاريكا. واليوم، هي مشاركة في زمالة كاتموسفير وكونزيرفيشن نيشن، حيث تعمل على حماية ببغاوات هيسبانيولا، التي تشمل نوعين لا يتواجدان إلا في موطنها، جمهورية الدومينيكان. 🇩🇴🌿
يعتمد نهجها على التخطيط التعاوني والتوعية المجتمعية، من خلال جمع المجتمعات المحلية والمؤسسات معاً لتغيير مستقبل هذه الطيور وحمايتها قبل فوات الأوان.
وقد عرضت أعمالها مؤخراً شركة الطيران "فرونتير إيربلاينز"، فإذا سبق لك أن رأيت ببغاءً على ذيل إحدى طائراتها، فذلك بفضل عمل أندريا! 🦜✈️

Two parrot species. One island 🦜🌴🌎

Andrea Thomen's conservation career started at age five — with an environmental art contest that sent her into the Costa Rican jungle. Today, she's a Catmosphere with Conservation Nation Fellow working to protect Hispaniolan parrots — two species found only in her home country, the Dominican Republic.🇩🇴🌿
Her approach: collaborative planning and social marketing, bringing communities and institutions together to change the story for these birds before it's too late.
Recently her work has been featured on the airplanes of flight company Frontier Airlines. If you’ve seen a parakeet on the tail of a jet, that is because of Andrea’s work! 🦜✈️

Today, we honor the most majestic roamer of the Americas, also known as the Mountain Lion, Panther, or one of its many other names. Despite its vast presence, it faces threats and has vanished from much of its historic range due to habitat loss, fragmentation, and human conflict. 🏞️⚠️
Protecting their future means protecting the landscapes they shape and the ecological balance we all depend on. All of our wellbeing is interconnected. 🐾🌿👥🌍

Today, we celebrate the lion—the most social of all Big Cats and one of the most iconic symbols of the wild. Yet this powerful species is under serious threat and is currently listed as Vulnerable on the IUCN Red List of Threatened Species.

Known for having the loudest roar among Big Cats, the lion’s voice is fading as habitat loss, conflict, and human pressures continue to increase.

On World Lion Day, we reaffirm our commitment to protecting lions and the ecosystems they sustain. All our wellbeing is interconnected. 🐾🌿👥🌎

Today, we celebrate cats in all their forms. 🐱🐆 But while domestic cats thrive, many Big Cats are fighting for survival in the wild. Habitat destruction, illegal wildlife trade, and human pressure continue to push these iconic species toward extinction. International Cat Day is a reminder that their future still depends on us. All our wellbeing is interconnected. 🐾🌿👥🌎
