It takes less than 5 seconds to stop and engage with this post—but those 5 seconds could help change the trajectory of a young boy's life.

When our team looked at the data, we were honestly in shock. We saw how our youth were/are struggling. But what was even more alarming… was the data for boys.

📊 Boys are:
• Significantly less likely to be proficient in core subjects
• 2x more likely to be suspended
• Nearly 4x more likely to drop out
• Less likely to graduate on time

Across nearly every major measure, our young boys are falling behind—and the gap is real.

That’s why we’re taking action.

We’re grateful to share another meaningful community impact story.

Our Peer Support Specialist recently helped an individual overcome a transportation challenge. Through the generous donation of a bicycle from https://www.facebook.com/LivingHopeILM/ #, and with the support of Curtis and Katrina, who ensured the bike was fully serviced, the individual received reliable transportation on March 2, 2026.

Transportation is more than getting from one place to another — it’s access to opportunity, healthcare, employment, and independence.

Thank you to everyone who continues to partner with us to remove barriers and strengthen our community.

One mom in our community said, “Helped me to cover my bills when no other assistance was available to me. Eased stress and worry about juggling finances each month.”

This season, we’re reminded that every parent carries quiet worries behind their smile. Rent notices stacking up. A car that won’t start. Utilities on the verge of being cut off.

HOPE in School Zones is here for families just like hers. Support is available through this program for past due rent, utilities, and essential car repairs.

HOPE in School Zones supports families in Wilmington, NC with at least one child attending a qualifying New Hanover County school, including:

Virgo Preparatory Academy
Freeman Elementary
Snipes Elementary
Gregory Elementary
Williston Middle
Forest Hills Elementary
New Hanover High
