We are so excited to support the binational premiere of A City in the Forest through our Screenings That Work program. ✨

The debut documentary was projected from Mexico onto a screen in the US, directly in the path of the proposed border wall. The screening brought lessons from the fight against Cop City to organizers in Arizona who are blocking border wall construction and fighting to protect the land.🌳

What started as a tree-sit in a centuries-old cottonwood tree, directly blocking the path of the border wall, has grown into a larger resistance camp that has helped block construction across 20 miles. 🌵

An organizer with shared what the screening meant for people organizing at the camp:

“There were so many young people getting active with this fight, who weren’t aware of Stop Cop City. To be able to bring those stories and that movie here is so potent and it ignites people, it reaffirms people’s motivations. I got a text after the event from someone who I had asked to help with something, they said: ‘I was feeling pretty burned out and didn’t want to do this and I saw the movie and it reminded me why I’m in this F***ing fight.’”🌀

At Working Films , we’re often working with organizers hundreds of miles away, helping them use films to bring more people into their fights. Sometimes, we get to organize screenings in the communities where we live.

It’s even better when we get to join the activism that grows out of those screenings.

This year, we’ve been hosting screenings of sixeyefilms Without Shade Without Rest, a recipient of our Docs in Action Fund, to connect audiences with WeCount! fight for better conditions for plant nursery workers.

At screenings across the country, audiences have signed pledges asking Costa Farms to join WeCount’s Planting Justice campaign to help ensure respect for human rights in the house plant industry.

Earlier this month, Working Films’ Andy Myers got to help deliver those pledges directly to Costa Farms.

This is what we mean when we say screenings can be more than movie nights. They can be a way to bring people into an ongoing campaign and turn a room full of viewers into people taking action.

We’re excited to support screenings of Who Moves America, which had its theatrical premiere in NYC on September 9th! This amazing new doc follows UPS Teamsters as they organize to win a historic contract and fight for what working people everywhere deserve.
