🍅💡 FOOD FOR THOUGHT!

Did you know there's a federal law that helps protect businesses when they donate food surplus? ❤️

It's called the Bill Emerson Good Samaritan Food Donation Act, and it's been around since 1996!

This law was created to encourage food donations by providing federal liability protections for qualifying food donated in good faith to nonprofit organizations serving individuals experiencing food insecurity.

Restaurants, grocery stores, caterers, hotels, and other food businesses may qualify for these protections.

Of course, food safety still matters! Donations must meet applicable requirements, and the law does not protect against gross negligence or intentional misconduct.

So, why are we sharing this? ❤️

At ICT Food Rescue, we believe preventing food surplus should always come first. But when unavoidable surplus does happen, we want Wichita businesses to know that food recovery can be an option!

We work with local businesses to establish planned pickups for suitable food surplus. Our volunteers then help transport that food directly to nonprofit receiving agencies serving neighbors experiencing food insecurity.

And here's something important to remember: You don't have to have food surplus every day to connect with us! Having a plan in place for when it does happen is a great place to start.

Y’all know I hate seeing good food go to waste. Usually that means I’m volunteering to finish the appetizers, but today I’m putting on a shirt and using my big mouth for a good cause.

I’m proud to support ICT Food Rescue and their 3rd Annual T-Shirt Awareness Campaign. Seeing what they do is always a great reminder of how much good is happening in Wichita. A little sweetness and a whole lot of thoughtful planning! 🍩❤️

Okay, but can we take a moment to appreciate these delicious treats?! 😍

Our friends at Mena's Donut House recently had some wonderful food surplus, and these donuts and pastries made their way to The Lord's Diner to be shared with neighbors in our community!

Here's something we especially love about this partnership. ❤️

Mena's may not have surplus donuts every day, and that's perfectly okay! They have a plan in place for when they do, with a scheduled ICT Food Rescue volunteer ready to pick up and deliver those extra treats to a nonprofit receiving agency.

No daily surplus required. Just a thoughtful plan to keep good food in circulation!

And while donuts might not be an everyday meal, there's something pretty special about sharing a little comfort, a sweet treat, and something delicious with our neighbors experiencing food insecurity. 🥹❤️

250 sandwiches, pans of delicious food, and one pretty incredible team! 👨‍🍳❤️

Now THIS is a beautiful example of what happens when thoughtful planning meets food recovery!

Our friends at Hyatt Regency Wichita recently had an incredible assortment of unavoidable food surplus, including 250 individually wrapped sandwiches, cookies, lasagna, chicken, potato salad, coleslaw, cornbread, and more! 🤯

And instead of letting that perfectly good food go to waste, they had a plan!

Through ICT Food Rescue's Rescue to Table initiative, part of our Upcycle Program, we thoughtfully match fresh, ready-to-serve food surplus with nonprofit partners serving clients onsite, ensuring delicious, prepared food can be enjoyed by our neighbors instead of going to waste. ❤️

This wonderful food was delivered to Wichita Fellowship Club, Inc. and Union Rescue Mission of Wichita, two of our 19 nonprofit receiving agencies serving neighbors experiencing food insecurity right here in Wichita. ❤️

But here's something we especially appreciate about the Hyatt Regency Wichita team!

They work hard to plan appropriately and prevent food surplus from happening in the first place. When unavoidable surplus does happen, they communicate with us, carefully package and label the food, and store it properly for safe transport.

That kind of thoughtfulness makes food recovery possible!

Now THIS is what Wichita supporting Wichita looks like! 🥹❤️🍕

Some partnerships just make your heart happy, and our friends at Picasso’s Pizzeria are certainly one of them!

For years, Picasso's Pizzeria has been a wonderful food surplus donor to ICT Food Rescue, but they didn't stop there! They also helped us bring a pretty fun idea to life through our 316 Pizza Project, finding a creative way to upcycle surplus pizza dough into delicious, fully prepared pizzas that help feed our neighbors experiencing food insecurity.

And seeing the Picasso’s crew rocking this year's Still Rescuing, Still Growing shirts?! We absolutely LOVE it! 👕❤️

Their thoughtful words about why they support our mission mean so much to us. It's a reminder that behind every great partnership are people who genuinely care about their community and want to make a difference.

🍕 A Little Planning Can Make a BIG Difference!

We love seeing good food and great community partnerships come together!

Last week, one of our wonderful volunteers picked up surplus food from Little Caesars and delivered it directly to OpenDoor, one of the 19 nonprofit organizations ICT Food Rescue serves throughout Wichita.

But there's something even more special about this partnership!

Little Caesars has made food recovery part of their routine by establishing planned pickup opportunities seven days a week! 🙌

Does that mean there's food surplus every day? Not at all! It simply means that when surplus is available, there's already a plan in place to share it with our community.

Through this partnership, ICT Food Rescue coordinates volunteer pickup opportunities and deliveries to seven different nonprofit organizations serving neighbors experiencing food insecurity.

That's more than 300 planned opportunities each year to keep good food in circulation when surplus is available!

To the Little Caesars team, THANK YOU for your thoughtful approach to food surplus and for making community giving part of your operations. And to our incredible volunteers and nonprofit partners, thank you for the important roles you play in making these connections possible!

Sometimes, making a difference starts with simply having a plan. ❤️

☀️A Little Planning, A Lot of Teamwork, and TWO Vehicles Full of Good Food! 🚙

This past weekend, the School Nutrition Association of Kansas hosted The Showcase right here in Wichita, and for the second year in a row, ICT Food Rescue had the opportunity to recover surplus food from this incredible event!

Here's something worth sharing. Food surplus isn't always a bad thing, especially when there's a plan for it! 🙌

When vendors gather to showcase their products, they need plenty of samples for attendees. And sometimes, that means perfectly good food is left over when the event wraps up.

That's where a little planning and teamwork make all the difference!

A HUGE thank you to Richard with the School Nutrition Association of Kansas for helping coordinate this recovery and jumping right in to help load vehicles. And to our wonderful volunteer Lauren, thank you for helping get TWO vehicles loaded to the brim with food surplus! 👏

All those individually packaged items were shared with Wichita Fellowship Club, Inc.
and Union Rescue Mission of Wichita, two of the 19 nonprofit organizations we serve.

These items were such a great fit for both organizations, as they provide sack lunches to individuals working to rebuild their lives and regain stability. And the timing couldn't have been better for a weekend delivery!

To the entire School Nutrition Association of Kansas team, thank you for welcoming us back for a second year and making food recovery part of your event planning. We truly appreciate how wonderful your team is to work with!

📸 And yes, this is just ONE of the two vehicles we filled! Apparently, the sunshine was just as excited about this food recovery as we were! 😂☀️
