East High's motto is "For the Service of Humanity" — and these Scarlet graduates are living it out right here in Polk County.

🏛️ Connie Boesen, Des Moines Mayor, Class of 1969, with Heather Jones-Brown, candidate for Polk County Supervisor, Class of 2002 — out knocking doors in a Des Moines neighborhood. Heather is running to fill Tom Hockensmith’s position on the board. Tom, an East High grad, is not running for reelection.

📚 Anna Campos, Class of 1999, and Sara (Westergaard) Hopkins, Class of 2001, Des Moines Public School Board members — celebrating with the East High Class of 2026 at graduation in May.

🍽️ Tom Hockensmith, outgoing Polk County Supervisor, Class of 1974, with John Kelly, Class of 1967 — the two serving side by side at one of our Big E Dinners at Chuck's Restaurant. Tom has been serving Polk County as a Supervisor for 23 years!

From the school board to the county courthouse to the dinner line at Chuck's, East High alumni keep showing up for their neighbors. Service doesn't always come with a title. Once a Scarlet, always a Scarlet. ❤️🖤
