As we head into Des Moines’ Pride Fest weekend, we want to highlight The Blazing Saddle.

Established in 1983, the East Village institution is recognized as Iowa's oldest operating gay bar and has played an important role in preserving and celebrating LGBTQ+ history in our state. Often referred to as the "Gay Cheers" of Des Moines, The Blazing Saddle has welcomed generations of patrons through decades of social change, advocacy and community building.

Today, The Blazing Saddle remains a vibrant hub for connection, entertainment and community engagement. From drag performances and charity events to everyday gatherings among friends, the bar continues to provide a welcoming space where everyone is invited to belong.

Kick off Pride with us at The Varsity Cinema!

Join us Thursday, May 28 at 7 PM for a special screening of Bottoms complete with costumes and community partners! Starring Ayo Edebiri (The Bear) and Rachel Sennott (I Love LA), the movie is a spin on a teen comedy about two q***r outsiders who start a fight club to hook up with cheerleaders.
Stop by before the screening begins to say "hello" and learn more about how you can support Des Moines' LGBTQ+ organizations.

Category is: High School Realness. Guests are encouraged to dress as their favorite high school cliché fantasy for the evening! School colors are red and blue.

Tickets can be purchased on the Varsity Cinema website. We can't wait to see you there!
