The Children's Museum Group

The Children's Museum Group Where Learning and Fun Connect Thank you for your interest in supporting The Children’s Museum, Inc.

The Children’s Museum Group with its main offices in West Hartford, Connecticut, with a recent move to 180 Mohegan Drive, offers hands-on fun with science and nature for younger children and families, school and community groups, and homeschooled children. At the Museum and Nature Center, in our preschool, and in classrooms throughout Connecticut, we encourage children to become creative thinkers

and lifelong learners. Children engage in our interactive labs, workshops, multi-sensory exhibits, and demonstrations, a live wildlife sanctuary, scout activities, and special events. Our unique Children’s Museum Preschool, co-located on our West Hartford campus, integrates science experiences into early childhood learning. Nearby Roaring Brook Nature Center in Canton offers environmental exhibits, nature programs, concerts, and acres of outdoor hiking, bird watching, and winter outdoor activities. The Children’s Museum Group will inspire life-long learning among children and their caregivers by providing experiential learning programs covering STEAM/STEM, health, nature, and the environment. Entertaining, stimulating, and unique to the area, our programs will assist the development of curious, confident, and innovative children creating the basis for successful adults. In so doing, The Children’s Museum will continue to be a valued asset and partner in the community. The Children's Museum is open to the public:

Wednesday - Friday 9:30 am - 3:30 pm, Saturday 1 pm - 5 pm, and Sunday 10 am - 4 pm
Closed Monday & Tuesday

Today was Carnival Day at The Children's Museum Preschool! Our preschoolers spent the morning playing games, winning prizes, and making memories with their friends. They soaked up the sunshine and enjoyed plenty of outdoor fun before the day got too hot.

On Monday, TCM educator Gianna visited fourth-grade students in East Hartford for a hands-on exploration of sound!

Students discovered how sound is created through vibrations and travels as waves. They experimented with pitch using our human xylophone activity and even built a musical instrument to see the science of sound in action. Learning about sound has never been so much fun!

Since 1927, The Children's Museum has inspired curiosity through science, nature, and hands-on learning.

Whether your connection to us began at the Sumner Mansion, with a visit to Conny the Whale at Trout Brook Drive, exploring Roaring Brook Nature Center, attending preschool, or experiencing a Mobile Museum program in your school or community, you have been part of our story.

While our museum building closed following the 2025 flood, our mission continues. Today, we serve children and families through The Children's Museum Preschool, Roaring Brook Nature Center, and TCM Mobile Museum programs across Connecticut.

As we approach our 100th anniversary, we're asking for your help to inspire the next generation of explorers, scientists, and nature lovers.

For nearly 100 years, The Children’s Museum Group has inspired curiosity, creativity, and hands-on learning for children and families across Connecticut.

You may remember us from our longtime home on Trout Brook Drive, where Conny the Whale welcomed generations of visitors. Others may know us through Roaring Brook Nature Center, The Children’s Museum Preschool, or our Mobile Museum programs that bring science, wildlife, and STEAM learning directly into schools and communities.

In 2025, flooding forced the closure of our museum space on Mohegan Drive, leaving the organization without a permanent museum home for the time being. But our mission did not stop.

From January through April 2026 alone, we delivered 418 programs, reached 11,485 people, and served 54 cities and towns across Connecticut.

Much of our outreach work has been made possible through federal funding that has allowed us to bring hands-on learning experiences to children and families who need them most. As this funding comes to a close this fall, community support will play an even more important role in helping us continue and expand these programs.

We are also excited to participate in the 2026 Birdies for Charity program, which runs through June 2026. Every donation receives a 15% bonus thanks to the generosity of Webster Bank and Aetna, helping your gift make an even greater impact.

The Children’s Museum Group has changed many times over the past 99 years, but our mission remains the same: inspiring curiosity through hands-on learning.

Thank you for being part of our story and helping us continue the next chapter.

At our preschool, Fridays are reserved for two very important things: dance parties and museum lessons!

Every Friday morning starts with a dance party led by our resident DJ, Ms. Ivy, followed by a special lesson from one of our Mobile Museum educators.

This week, the kiddos learned all about snakes! They met two ball pythons and a corn snake while exploring camouflage, colors, and how animal patterns help them survive in the wild.
