💧 Well Drilling Update from Hôpital Bellevue-La-Montagne

Progress continues—slowly but surely.

The effort to drill a well at Hôpital Bellevue-La-Montagne has encountered some significant challenges. Workers are drilling through extremely hard rock formations, while the age of the drilling rig has resulted in mechanical and hydraulic breakdowns. When parts are needed, acquiring and replacing them can take an entire day, further slowing progress.

But the work continues.

This project has the potential to make an enormous difference. During Haiti's dry season, the hospital must currently have thousands of gallons of water trucked in to maintain its operations. A successful well would provide a much more reliable source of water for the hospital and help serve the surrounding mountain community.

The photos also offer some perspective on why this project matters—the final image shows one of the water trucks currently relied upon to bring water to HBLM.

💙 Despite the economic and technical challenges, we remain confident in the success of this project and grateful to everyone helping move it forward.

We will continue to share updates as the drilling progresses.

Progress is being made on one of the most important infrastructure projects at Hôpital Bellevue-La-Montagne—a new water well.

Reliable access to clean water is essential for every aspect of patient care. While the hospital has more than 100,000 gallons (375,000 liters) of water storage capacity, the dry season from October through April creates a significant challenge.

During these months, approximately 2,600 gallons (10,000 liters) of water must be trucked in each day at an annual cost of nearly $5,000.

🔵 A successful well will:
• Provide a more reliable source of clean water for the hospital.
• Strengthen 24/7 healthcare services for patients.
• Help reduce the need for expensive water deliveries.
• Benefit the surrounding mountain communities of Loiseau, Marlique, and Pétion-Ville, where HBLM serves approximately 150,000 people.

Drilling has been challenging due to extremely hard rock, but the crew has already reached approximately 60% of the projected 375-foot depth where geological testing indicates water may be found.

Please keep this project in your thoughts as work continues. We look forward to sharing the exciting news when the team reaches water.

Your generosity is making a lasting impact at Hôpital Bellevue-La-Montagne.

Thanks to the incredible support of our donors, Medical Aid to Haiti (MATH) not only achieved its 2026 Birdies for Charity goal of $75,000, but also earned the maximum 15% bonus of $11,250, generously provided by Webster Bank and Aetna.

What does that bonus mean in real terms?

It is equivalent to the annual salaries of four laboratory technicians at Hôpital Bellevue-La-Montagne.

These dedicated healthcare professionals play a critical role in patient care every day by:

🔹 Collecting patient specimens such as blood, tissue, and urine
🔹 Preparing samples for testing and analysis
🔹 Providing essential laboratory results that help physicians diagnose illnesses
🔹 Supporting treatment decisions and disease prevention efforts

Behind every accurate diagnosis is a laboratory team working diligently to provide the information needed for quality patient care.

Because of your support, MATH can continue strengthening the healthcare services provided 24 hours a day, 7 days a week to the communities served by Hôpital Bellevue-La-Montagne.

To every donor, supporter, volunteer, and advocate who participated in Birdies for Charity, thank you for helping us reach this milestone and for investing in the people who make healthcare possible.
