Not every portrait in About Face: 250 Years of American Portraits carries an individual story: an artist may choose not to record their sitter’s name, or their identity might be lost with time. These artworks become collective portraits of human experience and invitations to speculate on the sitters’ stories anew.
What portraits resonate most meaningfully for you?.. What stories can you imagine?

Yesterday, we took a History Hike with Brianna from our Education Department on Waterbury’s Phase 1 section of Naugatuck River Greenway trail.

Next month we'll join Director of Development, Barbara Bradbury-Pape, for a gentle 2-mile walk at the Orzech Preserve on July 20. (Sign up to save your spot next time you come visit, or on the calendar portion of our website)

Programs like these wouldn't be possible without our amazing community partners and sponsors, like the Connecticut Community Foundation.
