Waterbury Promise Our mission is to increase college aspirations, reduce financial barriers, and inspire every student in Waterbury towards secondary education.

​Every student that meets our criteria will become a Waterbury Promise Scholar
STEP 1:
Be a Waterbury Resident
STEP 2:
Attend all 4 years of H.S and Graduate from WPS, Kaynor, or Holy Cross
STEP 3:
Achieve a cumulative 3.0 GPA or better upon graduation
STEP 4:
Achieve a 90% or better cumulative attendance upon graduation
STEP 5:
Complete and submit a FAFSA
STEP 6:
Apply for a 2 or 4 year CT based college or university

Attention current Waterbury Promise Scholars and alumni from Cohorts 2022, 2023, 2024 and 2025—the celebration is almost here! Join us on Friday, June 26th from 6:00–8:00 p.m. at the Courtyard by Marriott Waterbury Downtown for an unforgettable evening filled with tropical colors, summer vibes, great food, music from DJYanks, and special memories with fellow Waterbury Promise Scholars.

We'll also be recognizing our outstanding 4.0 GPA Scholars and celebrating the accomplishments of our incredible scholar community! 🎓

Attention Waterbury Promise Scholars who are pursuing a degree in education! Check out this CT State Department of Education Scholarship - The Aspiring Educators Scholarship Program. Up to $10,000 available annually for undergraduate and graduate programs for students who graduated from a public high school in an Alliance School District (which includes Waterbury) and are enrolled in an approved educator preparation program in CT.

ATTENTION On-Track 2026 Waterbury Promise Scholars!

This is a FRIENDLY REMINDER to submit your final Enrollment Packet and FERPA forms (IF YOU HAVEN’T ALREADY) by Monday, July 6, 2026. Completing these required forms will officially enroll you in the Waterbury Promise Program and ensure you can access all of the incredible benefits, resources, and support services available to Promise Scholars.

If your plans have changed and you will not be enrolling in a Connecticut college or university this fall, please let us know as soon as possible.

Additionally, keep an eye out for an official invitation to our Fifth Annual Scholar Celebration for Cohort 2026, which will take place in early August. Attendance is mandatory, as we will celebrate YOU and your accomplishments while providing important program information, engaging workshops, a certificate ceremony, and a fun community-building experience. We look forward to celebrating this exciting milestone with you!

THANK YOU to Ives Bank for honoring Waterbury Promise with a Community Grant Award for the third consecutive year in support of our critical college planning, exploration, and readiness programming! And a special thank you to Farid Cabrera, AVP, Community Development Manager, and David Oliver, VP, Small Business Lending, for presenting us with another framed certificate recognizing the impact of our work in the education space. We cherish this growing collection and will continue to display it proudly! We were delighted to partner with Waterbury Public Schools last week to host our very first Top 100 Student event and recognize the top 20 juniors from each of the five high schools for their hard work, dedication and leadership! It was wonderful to see such a great turnout of students and families!

A HUGE thank you to Post University for sponsoring this special event that was held at Crosby High School. We are also incredibly grateful to our partner colleges for attending and connecting with these outstanding students to share information and answer questions in order to inform their college selection process.

Thank you Superintendent Dr. Schwartz, Board of Education President Elizabeth Brown, and Commissioner Jacqueline Jackson, for joining the festivities and helping to celebrate our students' fabulous academic achievements.

And last but certainly not least, we are grateful to the Early College High School students at Crosby who volunteered at the event and the Waterbury PAL Food Truck for keeping everyone fueled throughout the evening.

A HUGE THANK YOU to Dr. Schwartz, staff across the district and our neighbors in the Chase Building for sporting your college spirit wear on Tuesday and helping us raise funds for our incoming cohort! It was fun to see all of the colleges represented—from our state’s flagship university to campuses next door in Rhode Island and as far away as North Carolina and Kentucky! No matter where you earned your degree, we love seeing your pride shine through. Thank you for supporting our work to build the college-going culture in our great city and a generation of college graduates!
