Happy Four Years, Petals & S.T.E.M. 💐
Four years ago, I took a leap of faith and created something I hoped would make a difference. When people ask if I ever imagined Petals & S.T.E.M. would grow into what it is today, my answer is both yes and no. No, I could have never predicted every opportunity, partnership, scholarship, or life we would touch along the way. But yes, I always believed God could do something extraordinary with a vision rooted in purpose.
As a young Black woman pursuing medicine, I often found myself as one of the only Black girls in the room. During my time at PWIS, I experienced the lack of representation, mentorship, and understanding that so many young women of color still face today. Those experiences planted a seed in me. I knew I wanted to help create the spaces I wished existed when I was younger.
Petals & S.T.E.M. was built on the belief that representation matters, mentorship matters, and sisterhood matters. Over the last four years, I’ve watched God exceed every expectation. I’ve watched young women gain confidence, enter their dream programs, build lasting friendships, and discover what’s possible for their futures. Through every challenge and every victory, His hand has been evident.
To our leadership team, AfterHours ambassadors, friends, family, sponsors, partners, mentors, volunteers, and supporters: thank you. Your belief in this mission has helped transform an idea into a movement.
As we celebrate under this year’s theme, 4’ The Culture, we’re reminded that culture is legacy, community, and responsibility. Our commitment remains the same: creating opportunities, strengthening mentorship, and empowering young women of color to pursue their purpose.
Four years later, I am still in awe. Not because I doubted what God could do, but because watching His faithfulness unfold in real time is something I will never get used to.
With love and gratitude,
