What’s Been Happening in YFES?! 💚

Our Youth & Family Emergency Services team is getting ready for the winter season! With incredible support from our community partners, our Closet of Care is stocked and ready to help youth and families access essential items when they need them most.

But YFES is about much more than meeting immediate needs. Our team provides crisis intervention, case management, connections to community resources, and supervised visitation to support youth and families through challenging circumstances.

We’re grateful for the partners who continue to help us make sure our young people and families have somewhere to turn.

Our Childcare Team has a lot to celebrate! 🎉

Our childcare incubators are getting closer to reaching full capacity, creating opportunities for new providers to grow their businesses while expanding quality childcare options for families in our community.

And POWER is back! 💪 Our newest class kicked off with great energy as participants begin their 26-week journey toward becoming childcare providers and entrepreneurs. Over the next several months, participants will learn what it takes to successfully open and operate their own family childcare businesses — turning their goals into something they can build on for years to come.

The celebrations do not stop there! 🎊 In honor of Hispanic Heritage Month, our team and participants came together to celebrate the rich cultures, traditions, and contributions of the Hispanic community. It was a wonderful opportunity to embrace cultural pride, strengthen connections, and celebrate the diversity that makes our community so special! 🇲🇽❤️

From celebrating culture to creating opportunities, we’re proud of the work being done to empower aspiring entrepreneurs and strengthen families throughout Greater Waterbury

What’s Been Happening in PYD?! 🌟 WYS Positive Youth Development team has been MOVING!

From traveling to Virginia for training focused on preparing young adults for independence at the Daniel Memorial Independent Living Conference, to kicking off another year of Linking Academics to Life (LAL), to presenting our programs to school guidance counselors and cheering on students and families at Crosby’s Open House — we’ve been showing up wherever our young people are.

Through LAL, Youth Recovery, and Mentoring, our team continues to create opportunities for young people to build skills, form meaningful connections, discover their strengths, and prepare for what’s next.

That’s Positive Youth Development in action! 💜

What’s Been Happening in JJ?! ⚖️

WYS Juvenile Justice team has been busy connecting, preventing, and creating opportunities for youth!

We kicked off our first Positive Attendance Program at Wilby High School, joined the community at Fulton’s Community Day to celebrate the start of a new school year, and met with School Resource Officers to make sure they know about the diversion opportunities available to young people in Waterbury.

Next up, we’re looking forward to hearing directly from young people through our upcoming Youth Focus Group.

Through our Youth Diversion Team (YDT), Truancy Prevention, and RED initiatives, we’re working to keep youth connected to school, community, and positive pathways forward.

Riding With the Sun!☀️🏀

Our Waterbury Youth Services families packed the bus and headed out for a day at the CTSuns game — and it did not disappoint. 🚌💙

Free transportation, matching tees, and courtside energy with a WNBA crowd... but honestly? The best part was watching our kids and their families just be together. Cheering, laughing, soaking it all in. Those are the moments that stick. 💫

Huge thanks to the Connecticut Sun Community and TD US for making this happen. Experiences like this remind us what community support can really do. 🧡

What a day! The Waterbury Community Field Day & Concert was one for the books! 🎉🎶🧡

Waterbury Youth Services was proud to co-organize with WaterburyPAL , CMHA , and cityofwaterburyrecreation for an afternoon of fun, connection, and positive youth engagement.

Rooted in our commitment to gun violence prevention, the day gave youth and families a safe space to connect, access resources, and celebrate community. Field day competitions, great food, door prizes, an incredible concert—the energy was unmatched.

Because Community is Prevention. When we invest in our young people, we build a safer, healthier Waterbury.

Thank you to every sponsor, volunteer, partner, and family who joined us. 🧡
