Democracy on the edge: Election 2026 Key Issues Forum

Mark your calendars! OLLI will host a live online panel discussion on October 15, 2026 with national and local experts examining critical issues facing the nation in the November mid-term election, including the impact of gerrymandering, unbridled fundraising, recent SCOTUS decisions and the Connecticut races to watch.

The program is free and open to all OLLI members and the public but requires registration – only the first 100 registrants will be able to attend.

The discussion will be moderated by Larry Rifkin, former executive vice president of programming for CPTV for a quarter of a century, former talk show host on WATR's Talk of the Town, host of the popular weekly podcast America Trends, and an OLLI at UConn instructor.

The four guest panelists are:
Brody Mullins, Pulitzer Prize winner, formerly with the Wall Street Journal. Mullins co-wrote the book "Wolves of K Street" and will examine what the U.S. Supreme Court’s recent ruling allowing parties and candidates to coordinate their fundraising efforts may have on the mid-terms.

Ira Shapiro was a former trade ambassador under President Bill Clinton. He will talk about the critical role the Senate plays in filling Cabinet positions, treaties, policies and how dysfunctional the world's greatest deliberative body has become.

David Daley is a senior fellow at FairVote, and one of America's foremost experts on gerrymandering and election law. Daley is the author of the national best-seller “Ratf**ked: Why Your Vote Doesn’t Count,” which has been credited with sparking the modern drive to reform redistricting and end partisan gerrymandering.

Susan Raff is chief political reporter for WFSB/Channel 3; she will provide perspective on races to watch in Connecticut, including the governor’s race and races that will have an impact on the make-up of the Connecticut legislature.

Connecticut State Good Neighbor Day kicks off at OLLI at UConn!

OLLI at UConn and For All Ages are hosting this inaugural event.

The Connecticut Collaborative to End Loneliness, OLLI at UConn, United Way of Greater Waterbury, and the Connecticut Community Foundation are uniting to host this event, bringing together residents, college students, community-based organizations, and community leaders for a day of learning, connection, and hands-on service. The program is designed as a place-based, local community model. CT Good Neighbor Day is intended to grow over time, with communities across Connecticut creating their own opportunities for connection, belonging, and collective action on (or on the days surrounding).
