As part of our 8-week Life is a Marathon Mentorship Program — a financial literacy–backed initiative — our Waterbury youth were blessed with an amazing opportunity to tour the prestigious Yale University, led by Yale graduate and current assistant basketball coach, Brandon Sherrod. 🏛️📚

From walking the historic halls — the same grounds once walked by leaders like President Barack Obama and Justice Sonia Sotomayor — to envisioning life on campus, this college & career readiness experience gave our kids a firsthand look at what’s possible with focus, guidance, and support. 🙌✨

Special thanks to the Waterbury YMCA for being a committed partner in delivering high-level mentorship programming, the City of Waterbury for helping with transportation, and Sandra Romero, Family & Engagement Manager for Waterbury Public Schools, for her support in youth outreach.

This is what opportunity looks like for our Waterbury kids — and we’re just getting started. 💙

🏀🍎 Learning beyond the court!

Our after-school program had a special visit from Brass City Harvest, teaching our kids about healthy diets, MyPlate exercises, and the importance of a balanced lifestyle.

From interactive lessons to a fun game of Jeopardy, they learned which food groups fuel their bodies for success—on and off the court!

This is what we’re all about—using basketball as a tool to teach life skills that last a lifetime. 💪🏾📚🏆

Chef AI in the building! 🔥🍽️

Our director, Anthony Ireland, traded the basketball for a spatula as a Celebrity Chef at the Boys & Girls Club of Greater Waterbury! 🏀➡️🥞

He whipped up some delicious Belgian waffles with the kids, adding fresh fruits and a few sweets to make it extra fun.

Nothing beats good food, great company, and even better memories! 🍓🍌

Exposure creates opportunity! Last week, our Life is a Marathon Mentorship Program students had an amazing experience attending the CCSU vs. Chicago State basketball game. 🏀✨

This trip wasn’t just about basketball—it was about planting seeds of possibility. Being on a college campus, seeing student-athletes in action, and feeling the energy of higher education inspires our youth to dream bigger and aim higher. Experiences like this expand their minds and remind them that their potential is limitless.
