November invites us to look back with gratitude, and sometimes that means appreciating the moments that shaped the world we live in today. Here are a few milestones worth celebrating this month:

🏥November 8, 1895 - Wilhelm Röntgen discovered X-rays in his laboratory in Würzburg, Germany, an accidental breakthrough that would go on to revolutionize medicine and give doctors the ability to see inside the human body for the very first time.

🎬November 12, 1980 - The first of two Voyager spacecraft launched 16 days apart in 1977, Voyager 1 arrived near Saturn in November 1980, capturing the first high-resolution, close-up pictures of Saturn, its satellites, and rings. Beyond beautiful scenes, these images offered scientists broader insights into the planet and space itself.

🎵November 28, 2005 - The term “Cyber Monday” was coined for the first time. The shopping holiday, which follows Black Friday, showcases just how quickly online shopping and tech have become an integral part of our lives.

We are reminded this month that gratitude is not only for the people in our lives but also for the moments in history that have shaped the world we live in today.

Which of these November milestones speaks to you the most? Drop a comment and share your thoughts!

Healthy communication with kids starts with creating space for them to feel heard, respected, and safe.

Whether your child is excited, frustrated, worried, or quiet, simple moments of connection can make a big difference:
• Listen without immediately trying to fix the problem
• Ask open-ended questions and give them time to respond
• Validate their feelings, even when you set limits
• Use calm, age-appropriate language
• Remind them they can come to you anytime

Teaching children that their voices matter helps build trust, confidence, and healthy relationships. At Safe Haven of Greater Waterbury, we believe communication rooted in respect and compassion can help create safer homes and stronger communities.

On National First Responders Day, we thank the firefighters, law enforcement officers, EMTs, paramedics, dispatchers, and other emergency professionals who serve our communities with courage and compassion.

For survivors of domestic violence and sexual assault, a first responder may be among the first people to offer safety, support, and connection during a crisis. Safe Haven of Greater Waterbury is grateful for the dedication of first responders throughout our community and for their commitment to helping individuals and families when they need it most.

Thank you for all you do.
