It was a great night recognizing Rey for his dedication, professionalism and service to the Waterbury community, and we were proud to have so many of our members there to support and celebrate one of our own.

Congratulations again, Rey, on a well-deserved honor. We’re proud to call you both a great firefighter and a union brother.

Last night, members of the Waterbury Fire Fighters Association, IAFF Local 1339, gathered for our annual Retirees Dinner to celebrate the members who recently closed out their careers with the Waterbury Fire Department.

It was a great night of catching up, sharing stories and recognizing the years of service, sacrifice and commitment each retiree gave to the department and the City of Waterbury.

We’re proud to honor those who came before us and grateful for the example they set for the members still on the job.

Congratulations to all of this year’s retirees, and thank you for your service.

A special thank you to the Connecticut Firefighters Pipes and Drums for helping make the evening even more memorable.

Twenty-five years later, we remember.

Members of the Waterbury Firefighters Association, IAFF Local 1339 joined Waterbury police, local EMS, city officials and members of our community today to honor all those lost on September 11, 2001.

Among them was FDNY Rescue 1 Firefighter Brian Sweeney, who had been part of a Waterbury Fire Department recruit class before leaving to pursue his dream of serving with the FDNY.

His service and sacrifice remain part of our story.
