A significant early victory for naturopathic medical education—and the students pursuing it.
On October 16, a federal court granted a preliminary injunction in the case brought by AANMC, AANP, and NMSA against the U.S. Department of Education.
The court ordered the Department to recognize the Doctor of Naturopathic Medicine (ND) degree as a professional degree, and students pursuing the ND degree as professional students, for applicable federal student loan purposes while litigation continues.
This decision is an important step toward protecting access to naturopathic medical education and supporting the institutions preparing the next generation of naturopathic doctors.
We are especially grateful to the current and prospective students who shared their personal experiences with the court. Their testimony helped demonstrate the real-world consequences of the Department's policy for students, families, and educational institutions.
This is a major step forward, but the case is not over. Our profession-wide fundraising goal is $300,000 to support the ongoing litigation. AANMC encourages our member institutions, alumni, faculty, students, and supporters to stand together in this effort.
