Mangroves are incredible for carbon storage and storm protection, thriving in salty, muddy coastlines where most plants can’t. For 30+ years, Mangrove Action Project has been restoring these powerful natural defenses alongside communities around the world. More at mangroveactionproject.org.

A small but mighty group of , harvester ants are seed-collecting insects found around the world... but in North America’s deserts and grasslands, they play an outsized role. By gathering, storing, and redistributing seeds, these tiny “gardeners” keep plant life in balance. Their constant digging aerates soil, improving water flow and nutrient cycling. Plus, they serve as a vital food source for birds, reptiles, and mammals.
