Meet the next group of youth leading the charge to protect our ocean planet!

We enthusiastically welcome the 2026 U.S. Ocean Protection Ambassadors—six young leaders who will spearhead innovative, community-driven campaigns in support of marine protected areas across the country.

This youth ambassadors program is made possible through generous support from the David and Lucile Packard Foundation, with additional programmatic guidance from the National Ocean Protection Coalition and regional partners including the Conservation Law Foundation, NRDC, the Papahānaumokuākea Coalition, the Pacific Islands Heritage Coalition, and the Wildlife Conservation Society.

Together, we’re advancing the global call to protect 30% of our ocean by 2030 (30x30). The next generation of ocean advocates are already leading the way toward a sustainable, thriving blue planet and we are thrilled for what’s next. Welcome new Ocean Protection Ambassadors! 💙🌍

Climate education policies don’t advance because one bill gets introduced. They move because people get together, build trust, and keep showing up across political divides. In this webinar, advocates from states that successfully passed climate education policies will share about what it took to get there.

If you care about turning climate education into lasting policy, this conversation will leave you with insights and practical lessons from people who’ve done the work.

EarthEcho and our Ocean Protection Ambassadors are heading to D.C.! 🌊🛡️

Next week, we'll be at Upwell (June 2–3), gathering with people who care as deeply about the future of our ocean as we do.

Ocean justice means making sure the voices of those most impacted by what happens to our ocean are part of the conversation. There's something powerful about being in the room where solutions are shaped, and we are so excited to show up, listen, learn, and advocate alongside this incredible community.

Will you be there too? Drop a comment or DM us — we'd love to say hi, hear your story, and keep building our ocean advocacy community together. 🐠🌏

“It felt like the start of something bigger than ourselves. A group of young people from different parts of the world, united by our concern for a place.”

The place that connects us all is our ocean. For Gabriela Casuso, 2026 High Seas Youth Ambassador and founder of Proyecto Acuática, creating a project to educate her local community on ocean literacy required a shift in perspective. The Colombian coast is more than a relaxing vacation spot, but the gateway to a fascinating and integral part of our planet’s health. Through the High Seas Youth Ambassador program, a collaboration of EarthEcho International and the High Seas Alliance, young people from around the world translate scientific knowledge into actionable understanding. They create bridges between individuals, educators, and communities, while taking steps to strengthen coastal resilience in their own backyards.

I still remember the first meeting with the 2026 High Seas Ambassadors cohort. For me, it was more than just an introduction; it felt like the start of something bigger than ourselves.

Have your voice heard in the first holistic assessment of U.S. lands, waters, wildlife, and the benefits they provide! Young ocean advocates ages 13–25 are invited to join tomorrow’s GenSea AdvocaSEA Workshop (Thursday, May 26 at 7 PM ET) for a unique opportunity to help shape the marine chapter of The Nature Record.

During the workshop, participants will join Dr. Phil Levin and Dr. Sarah Lester from The Nature Record to:
🌎 Share how they connect with nature and what matters most about the ocean
💬 Contribute stories, perspectives, and ideas to strengthen the assessment
📣 Help shape how the findings are communicated to inspire action in their communities

Special thanks to EarthEcho Youth Leadership Council Member Nina Shetty for moderating the event. Register by creating a free GenSea account at joingensea.org and signing up to attend on our Events page!

This week, organizations around the world celebrate International Day for Biodiversity by highlighting efforts that protect, restore, and prepare for the future needs of our planet's ecosystems. At EarthEcho, we see young people connecting the role of the ocean as the force that connects life on this planet to the success of our shared future.

Through EarthEcho's Youth Ambassador and community science programs, young ocean advocates around the world helping to scale ocean protection efforts at a global level.

We celebrate International Day for Biological Diversity by lifting up the communities, individuals, and organizations taking steps to act locally for global impact. Learn more about their work at earthecho.org

Calling all young ocean advocates! Protecting our ocean starts with understanding its value - and this is your chance to help shape how nature and its benefits are recognized at a national level in the United States.

GenSea members are gathering for a special AdvocaSEA Workshop on Thursday May 26, 2026 7:00 PM EDT where participants - yes, YOU! - have the unique opportunity to share perspectives, insights, and ideas to shape the marine chapter of The Nature Record - the first holistic assessment of U.S. lands, waters, wildlife, and the benefits they provide.

This session will create a space for youth voices to directly influence a major national effort - a groundbreaking initiative bridging science, storytelling, and public participation to build a clearer, more complete picture of nature’s value and inform decisions that shape its future.

Don’t miss out on your chance to help shape how our ocean and nature in the United States is valued, protected, and understood for years to come!

At this week, conversations around protecting and restoring our planet came back to one reality: there will always be a need for funding and partnership.

Our Founder and President Philippe Cousteau spoke to the efforts of EarthEcho International and Voyacy Regen, and the critical role of both scale and durability in any initiative of this nature. Philippe left attendees with questions that sit at the heart of EarthEcho's work of youth-led, community-based initiatives:

"The key is education—how do we grow a constituency of people in society that make the economic, social, and political choices consistent with the values we're trying to instill? The other key term we need to think about is durability—how do we create durability in communities and society for this work to continue?"

How do you ensure durability and scale in your work? How are youth invited to fortify the early stages of community action?

When President Obama designated the Northeast Canyons and Seamounts as the Atlantic's first Marine National Monument in 2016, EarthEcho's Youth Leadership Council was on Capitol Hill with Philippe Cousteau helping make the case. In the years since, our young leaders have continued building public awareness around the monument and ecologically connected places like Cashes Ledge and Hudson Canyon because an informed, engaged public is the foundation of lasting ocean protection.

Now, Conservation Law Foundation, NRDC , and the Center for Biological Diversity have filed a lawsuit to block the current administration's opening of this irreplaceable ecosystem to commercial fishing. The Northeast Canyons and Seamounts shelter endangered whales, ancient cold-water corals, and species still being discovered. We stand behind that effort and the trusted partners leading it.

🔗 Read more about the lawsuit:

The last time the Trump administration tried to strip away protections, we sued and kept fighting until protections were restored. We’re ready to do it again.
