Today, April 24, 2026, EIHR remembers the Armenian Genocide which took the lives of 1.5 million Armenians. We remember this day by alerting our educators to valuable resources. The Visual History Archive of the USC Shoah Foundation has a repository of rare Armenian Genocide survivor testimonies accessible on their website. Please consider these important testimonies while teaching students this horrific chapter in human history.

Congratulations to the EIHR Deputy Director, Kim Klett, on her appointment as Director of Education of the Hilton Family Holocaust Education Center opening in August 2027. Kim is a nationally respected leader in Holocaust education with more than 30 years of experience. Kim will continue to bring a thoughtful and student-centered approach to expanding outreach and shaping meaningful learning experiences in her new role. Kim will continue to support EIHR as she expands her work in the field of Holocaust education.

Today, April 14, 2026, marks Yom HaShoah—a solemn day of remembrance honoring the approximately six million Jews and five million others who were murdered during the Holocaust.

In the generations since the Holocaust, many descendants of survivors have undertaken deeply personal journeys to uncover hidden family histories. Some discover letters, diaries, and documents carefully preserved by parents or relatives; others begin with little or no knowledge of their family’s past. These discoveries often reshape identity, memory, and understanding—connecting the present generation to stories of loss, resilience, and survival.

This year, EIHR webinar series featured a powerful new memoir, Inheritance: Love, Loss, and the Legacy of the Holocaust, by Charlie Scheidt with Kat Rohrer. Scheidt’s discovery of his mother’s wartime trove of documents sparked a decades-long journey to uncover his family’s hidden past—illustrating how the legacy of the Holocaust continues to unfold across generations.

Kwibuka means, 'Remember' in Kinyarwanda. It also signifies the 100 days memorializing the Genocide Against the Tutsi. During this period of time, beginning on April 7, we remember all the lives lost during the genocide in 1994. We listen and support the survivors. We share their stories in order to educate in hopes of a better future.

📣 Meet the Panelist: Meredith Baldi

Meredith is a history, politics, and media literacy teacher and service-learning coordinator at George School in Newtown, Pennsylvania. Her focus is on helping students understand the world around them and working with them to find experiential opportunities to be active in their communities working towards positive change.

Meredith is also a Lead Educator with Speak Truth to Power, using the STTP curriculum to help students deepen their understanding of human rights. She also led a series of workshops at the RFK Summer Institute in San Diego, to help other educators understand the power of film and media to produce social change.
