Mother’s Day may be over, but the realities facing working families haven’t changed.

Most workers in the United States do not have paid leave through their employers. And many families cannot afford to take unpaid leave — even when they are eligible for it.

Paid leave, affordable childcare, and workplace protections shape whether women can stay in school, stay at work, and build long-term economic security.

Refer to the questions we’ve raised to hold leaders accountable — and keep the conversation going beyond Mother’s Day.

Last week, hundreds of AAUW members contacted Congress, and our volunteer Lobby Corps took that message directly to Capitol Hill, urging lawmakers to pass the DEFIANCE Act and help survivors fight back against sexually explicit fake images and videos shared without consent.

We’re proud to stand alongside the Sexual Violence Prevention Association - SVPA in support of this bill, and grateful to Representatives Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (NY-14) and Laurel Lee (FL-15) for leading the fight for survivors and digital safety.

Now it’s your turn to take action. Urge your Representative to cosponsor the DEFIANCE Act today: act.aauw.org/DEFIANCEAct

Together, we can help create a safer future.

AAUW CEO Gloria L. Blackwell was featured in Feminist Majority Foundation’s latest article addressing the Supreme Court’s devastating ruling on the Voting Rights Act and its broader impact on women, families, and communities.
“When maps dilute Black voting power, women and families lose ground on the issues that matter most — from strong public education to equal pay to civil rights protections.” — Gloria L. Blackwell

“Women should have a choice with their bodies.”
“My reproductive rights are mine to decide.”
"Protecting and increasing reproductive care access matters."
"I have the right for liberty and the pursuit of happiness."
When women vote, we change the conversation — and what leaders think is possible.
From pregnancy and parenting protections to economic security, the issues at stake shape whether people can stay in school, stay at work, and build stable futures.
Your voice matters — and your participation can help shape what comes next.
because our voices belong in every conversation.
