❤️ Return & Rebuild Medical Mission | Summer 2026

In partnership with Syria’s Ministries of Health and Higher Education, more than 150 volunteer physicians and specialists launched the Return & Rebuild Medical Mission across Syria, delivering care while strengthening local healthcare capacity.

Day One Impact:

• 170+ specialized medical consultations
• 70+ surgeries and advanced procedures
• 15+ educational and training sessions
• Hundreds of resident physicians trained and mentored

Beyond patient care, the mission is helping build a stronger healthcare system through hands-on training, knowledge exchange, and collaboration with local medical teams.

🤍 A historic milestone for the Return & Rebuild Medical Mission 2026.

For the first time, a SAMS medical mission reached Al-Hasakah Governorate, marking the first known visit by an international medical organization to the region.

Despite road closures caused by recent flooding, the team crossed the Euphrates River to reach patients and healthcare workers in Northeast Syria, driven by a simple belief: healthcare should reach every community, no matter how remote or challenging the journey.

In partnership with the Al-Hasakah Health Directorate and the Syrian Ministry of Health, the SAMS team was warmly welcomed by the leadership and staff of Al-Hasakah National Hospital and Al-Qamishli Hospital.

During the visit, volunteer physicians toured the hospital, met with patients and frontline healthcare workers, and gained firsthand insight into the region’s healthcare needs. The mission also delivered specialized medical services across the emergency department, intensive care units, outpatient clinics, and operating rooms.

What made this visit remarkable was not only the distance traveled, but the connections built. It was a visit from one community to another, united by a shared commitment to healing, partnership, and rebuilding Syria’s healthcare system.

For the first time in Syria, and as part of the programs and activities of the SAMS Academy during the Return & Rebuild Mission, Dr. Shaden Kassar, a Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA) certified by the American Behavior Analyst Certification Board, administered the Autism Diagnostic Observation Schedule, Second Edition (ADOS-2) to a group of children.

The initiative aimed to transfer expertise to local professionals and support more accurate autism diagnoses. ADOS-2, commonly known as the Autism Diagnostic Observation Schedule, is considered the gold standard for autism diagnosis and is one of the most widely recognized assessment tools worldwide. The test has a sensitivity of approximately 94%, reflecting its strong ability to identify individuals with autism spectrum disorder. Among its key advantages are its applicability across all age groups and diagnostic levels. Administration and scoring of the assessment require specialized clinical training and certification.

At the SAMS Academy, autism evaluations are conducted by a multidisciplinary team consisting of a Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA), a speech-language pathologist, an occupational therapist, and a pediatric neurologist and developmental disorders specialist. The diagnostic process is based on behavioral observation, structured assessment activities, medical reports and examination results, as well as interviews with parents.

❤️ Return & Rebuild Medical Mission 2026

For the second time this year, SAMS medical teams returned to Palmyra, one of Syria’s most historic cities.

Known around the world for its ancient ruins, Palmyra is also home to families who have endured years of hardship while facing limited access to specialized healthcare.

At Palmyra National Hospital, dozens of patients received consultations from SAMS physicians. But beyond medical care, these visits carry another message: you have not been forgotten.

Every doctor who makes the journey, every patient who finds hope, and every act of care helps rebuild the foundations of a stronger future for Syria.
