NEARLY 800 REPUBLIC AIRWAYS WORKERS JOIN TEAMSTERS

Airline Maintenance Technicians (AMTs) with Republic Airways have voted overwhelmingly to join the Teamsters, resulting in nearly 800 new members. They now join Republic Airways pilots and flight attendants who are already represented by the Teamsters Union.

The 777 newly organized AMTs are preparing to begin negotiations on a first contract that delivers industry-leading wages, strong benefits, and improved workplace protections that raise the standards at Republic Airways.

“Republic Airways AMTs are tired of being overlooked and are ready to stand together for the pay, protections, and respect they’ve earned,” said Dave Saucedo, Director of the Teamsters Airline Division. “These workers do critical, highly skilled work every single day to keep planes operating safely. By joining the Teamsters, they now have the power to hold Republic accountable and fight for a better future.”

With Teamsters support, a ban on captive audience meetings has become law in Maryland. Banning captive audience meetings is a key state legislative priority for North America’s strongest union. Last week, over 40,000 residents around Orange County, Calif., were evacuated from the area due to a potential toxic chemical incident at GKN Aerospace. As tanks began to fail, emergency personnel raced to limit the risk of an explosion. While many residents have been allowed to return to their homes, thousands remain in emergency housing due to the ongoing risk.

Teamsters Local 952 represents more than 350 members at the impacted facility. The International Union has since last week been working with Local 952 to ensure all members remain safe and accounted for. Teamsters affected by this high-risk situation manufacture military aircraft components, helicopters, jet engines, cockpit hardware, and airplane windows.

“The Teamsters Union has remained in constant contact with our brothers and sisters of Local 952, including Secretary-Treasurer Eric Jimenez, to make sure all workers and their families at GKN are taken care of and have a place to stay,” said Teamsters General President Sean M. O’Brien. “We are continuing to pray for a safe resolution and a return to normalcy for the community. I was honored to spend time with our members at GKN at their facility just a short time ago. Moments like these are a reminder for Teamsters to stand together and support one another during good times and challenging ones. We will stay in contact with our members of Local 952 throughout this process."

Teamsters Local 745 members at United Natural Foods Inc. (UNFI) in Lancaster, Texas, have overwhelmingly ratified their first Teamsters contract. The agreement covers 300 warehouse workers and delivers a 23 percent wage increase, Teamsters health care, a defined benefit pension plan, and strong job protections.

Since 2022, more than 3,500 UNFI workers have organized with the Teamsters, bringing total Teamsters membership at the primary distributor for Amazon-owned Whole Foods, to more than 5,500 nationwide. Newly organized workers at UNFI facilities across the country continue to win strong first contracts that raise standards at the company.

Drivers and warehouse workers at Sysco South Florida, represented by Teamsters Local 769, have overwhelmingly ratified a strong four-year contract. The agreement delivers a 40 percent wage increase, Teamsters health care, stronger seniority protections, safeguards against automation, and double-time pay after 60 hours worked.

The victory adds to growing momentum for Sysco Teamsters nationwide. The Teamsters Union represents more than 13,000 workers at Sysco and its subsidiaries across the country. Over the past year, Sysco Teamsters in Washington, Idaho, Illinois, the Dakotas, and Montana have secured powerful contracts with major wage increases, improved benefits, and stronger workplace protections.
