Last night, a terrible incident involving the collision of a small commercial aircraft carrying about 60 passengers and four flight crew and an Army Black Hawk helicopter carrying three military members, occurred over the Potomac River, near Ronald Reagan Washington National (DCA) Airport, in the Arlington, Virginia/Washington, D.C. area.

This prompted immediate search and rescue teams, closure of DCA Airport, and an ongoing investigation that has prompted more questions than answers.

Meanwhile, several top officials, including D.C. Mayor Muriel Bowser, newly-confirmed Secretary of U.S. Department of Transportation Sean Duffy, U.S. Senators from the state of Kansas, Jerry Moran and Roger Marshall, and others, gathered at DCA Airport to hold a press conference to provide the latest information and answer questions.

As of this posting, the number of deceased is unknown, yet sadly, we do know there have been unresponsive bodies recovered from the river. Although this incident is not directly linked to TSA or its employees, there is an indirect correlation due to our shared aviation sector affiliation.

Prayers for those who were lost and their families who have a long road ahead. Also, let’s keep our AFGE TSA DCA leaders, and their officers, in our thoughts.
