Thanks to our union, TSA officers are one giant step closer to getting the expanded union rights they deserve.

TSA workers are living paycheck to paycheck, serving our country each day, and keeping people safe in airports and in the sky. We work early and late shifts, on weekends and holidays, all with the goal of keeping the American people safe.

We deserve fair pay and the same rights as other federal employees.

The separate and unequal treatment of TSA officers has led to staffing shortages and low morale in the TSA. Fixing that could fix airport security.

We are happy to report that the family of Transportation Security Officer Maui Kahalepuna who died of COVID-19 in December finally received workers’ compensation death benefits after several months of delay.

“The credit goes to so many AFGE employees who assisted me in fighting for the family’s rights and benefits,” said AFGE Workers Compensation Specialist Joe Mansour.

The Biden administration will expand union rights for 46,000 TSA officers! Transportation security officers have had a pay and performance system that does not align with the government’s primary wage system for federal workers and do not receive regular salary increases.

"This decision is not just going to help the workers by giving them more rights and better pay, it’s going to help reduce turnover so that the agency can benefit from experienced officers’ expertise.” - AFGE National President Everett Kelley

The U.S. Homeland Security Department said on Thursday that 46,000 Transportation Security Administration (TSA) officers will be eligible for expanded union rights and the department will move to boost pay for frontline airport screeners.

A great victory for our TSA workers! On Thursday, the Biden administration announced it would increase the pay and union rights of Transportation Security Administration Officers.

“We are just asking to be put on the same scale as everyone else. We are not asking for something different. The TSA are front-line workers too. Every day we put the uniform on, we put ourselves in harm’s way.” - Hydrick Thomas, president of AFGE’s Council 100

WASHINGTON (AP) — The Biden administration said Thursday it is moving to increase the pay and union rights for security screeners at the nation’s airports. The Department of Homeland Security directed the acting head of the Transportation Security Administration to come up with a plan within 90 ...

Transportation Security Officers are underpaid compared to other federal law enforcement employees, and deserve to be Title 5 federal employees. Current legislation being reviewed in Congress would make TSOs Title 5 employees and would give them raises. Check out this Federal News Network interview with AFGE Local 333 President Joe Shuker to learn more about this bill!

A bill under debate in Congress would move transportation security officers to Title 5 and into the General Schedule system, presumably giving them a raise.

Congress needs to get rid of the Transportation Security Administration's idiosyncratic pay system and grant TSOs full Title 5 rights. Transportation Security Officers don’t have the same workplace rights and protections as other federal employees and their pay is lower. As a result, the morale is low and turnover is high.

TSOs put their lives on the line every day to protect the flying public. They deserve to be treated fairly and with dignity.

Transportation Security Officers (TSOs) don’t have the same workplace rights and protections as other federal employees.
