πŸ’› Hepatitis C is curable β€” and a new CDC study shows that treating it could save our healthcare system $147 billion.

A study just published in the journal BMC Health Services Research found that curative treatment for hepatitis C saves an average of $65,841 per person in lifetime medical costs. Multiply that across the more than 2 million Americans living with the virus, and the potential savings are enormous β€” and that's before factoring in costs like lost work, caregiving, and quality of life.

The treatment is a once-daily oral medication taken for just 8 to 12 weeks, with a cure rate above 95%.

So why are we still losing more than 10,000 people a year to hepatitis C?
Because millions of people don't know they have it. Hepatitis C often causes no symptoms for years β€” silently damaging the liver until it's much harder to treat.
The first step is simple: get tested.

The CDC recommends that all adults 18 and older be screened for hepatitis C at least once in their lifetime. If you haven't been screened, talk to your doctor. If you know someone who hasn't β€” share this post.

🧑 May is Hepatitis Awareness Month β€” and there's still time to spread the word!
Viral hepatitis affects millions of Americans, but many people don't know they're infected because it often shows no symptoms. That's what makes awareness β€” and testing β€” so important.
Here are a few key facts worth sharing with your friends and family:
πŸ”Ή Hepatitis A and B are both preventable with vaccines
πŸ”Ή The CDC recommends all adults age 18 and older be screened at least once for both hepatitis A and B
πŸ”Ή Left untreated, chronic hepatitis B and C can lead to serious liver damage, liver cancer, and even death
The CDC has updated resources, testing information, and a social media toolkit available now:

May is Hepatitis Awareness Month β€” and we're in the final days. Let's make them count. 🧑
Viral hepatitis remains one of the most serious β€” and most overlooked β€” public health threats in the United States. Hundreds of thousands of people are living with hepatitis B or C and don't even know it, because these viruses often cause no symptoms for years while silently damaging the liver.
Here's what everyone should know:
βœ… Hepatitis A & B are vaccine-preventable
βœ… Hepatitis C is curable β€” with just 8–12 weeks of oral treatment
βœ… The CDC recommends all adults 18+ be screened at least once for both hepatitis B and hepatitis C
Testing is the first step. You can't treat what you don't know you have.
As we close out May, take a moment to talk to your doctor, share this with someone who might benefit, and visit the CDC's updated Hepatitis Awareness resources at πŸ‘‰ https://www.cdc.gov/nchhstp/director-letters/2026-hepatitis-awareness.html

May 19 is National Hepatitis Testing Day! πŸŽ—οΈ Millions of Americans are living with chronic hepatitis B or hepatitis C β€” and many don't know it. Hepatitis often has no symptoms, which means testing is the only way to know your status.

This May 19, make a plan to get tested. Early detection can prevent serious liver damage, cirrhosis, and liver cancer β€” and today, hepatitis C is curable.

May 19 is National Asian & Pacific Islander HIV/AIDS Awareness Day. πŸŽ—οΈ

Today we recognize the impact of HIV on AANHPI communities and recommit to breaking down the stigma, language barriers, and systemic gaps that stand in the way of prevention and care.
