The recent European Court of Justice (ECJ) ruling on organic labeling in the EU could have significant implications for U.S. organic exports under the U.S.-EU Organic Equivalence. This decision challenges how fortified and other processed organic products are labeled and traded between the two regions, potentially impacting costs, compliance, and market access.

OTA is closely monitoring the situation and engaging with USDA, NOP, and European partners to understand the ruling's full impact on organic trade. We’ll share updates as we learn more and continue advocating for fair and equitable market access for U.S. organic businesses.

Pennsylvania is a national leader in organic agriculture, ranking 3rd in the U.S. for organic sales, with 1,125 certified organic farms and over 104,000 acres of organic farmland. Through the PA Preferred Organic™ program, the Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture is helping farmers meet growing consumer demand for organic products while increasing farm incomes and strengthening the state’s agriculture industry.

Key initiatives include the Organic Certification Cost-Share Program to reduce certification costs, free or low-cost technical assistance for farmers transitioning to organic, and funding for Pennsylvania-specific organic research. The PA Preferred Organic™ logo also provides branding opportunities, helping consumers identify products that are USDA-certified organic and Pennsylvania-made.

The Organic Trade Association is proud to announce the expansion of its leadership team with the addition of Ivanna Yang as Vice President of Government Affairs and Matt Landi as Vice President of Industry Relations.

Ivanna Yang will lead OTA’s legislative advocacy, advancing organic priorities in appropriations, the farm bill, and trade policies. With extensive experience in coalition building and policy development, Ivanna is committed to ensuring organic farmers and businesses have a strong voice in shaping the future of food systems.

Matt Landi will oversee OTA’s industry relations, including membership engagement, sector councils, and events. With over 20 years of experience in organic food and agriculture, Matt brings a deep commitment to advancing the sector.

OTA’s Board of Directors is democratically elected by its members.
