Put Something Back proudly supported the 36th Annual Bankruptcy Skills Workshop at UMiami Law. The panels were extremely informative and provided practical, useful information on topics including Assignments for the Benefit of Creditors, Chapter 7 and 13 issues, Updates on the New Rules Overhaul, Ethical Considerations, and a View From the Bench with our Distinguished Judges from the Southern District of FL. “Hearing the perspectives of the judges, attorneys, the judges’ deputies, clerks and trustees was very insightful,” said Liz Holland Marquardt, who provided opening remarks on the Importance of Pro Bono.

Several staff from PSB attended and not only connected with current pro-bono volunteer attorneys but also recruited new ones volunteers for the growing number of clients in need of free civil legal assistance.

“This event was a very positive and successful partnership between the Bankruptcy Bar, UM Law, and PSB/Dade Legal Aid, and we are delighted to be a part of it!” according to Karen Ladis, executive director. “Thank you to the planning committee, staff, speakers and participants for making it a huge success!”

Dade Legal Aid mourns the tragic passing of Melanie Hyer and her children. Melanie’s unwavering dedication to serving others made a lasting impact on our community. She lived a life of purpose, compassion, and service, always going above and beyond to help those in need.

A devoted mother, family member, and professional, Melanie was one of Dade Legal Aid’s strongest supporters. Her dedication, generosity, and compassion were truly extraordinary. She generously gave her time and energy to our mission, regularly attending events and organizing the annual Probate Holiday Party with the Miami-Dade Bar Probate & Guardianship Committee, raising critical funds and collecting toys for the families we serve.

Melanie’s kindness, leadership, and commitment to justice touched countless lives. Her legacy will continue to inspire all who had the privilege of knowing and working alongside her.

We extend our deepest condolences to Melanie’s family, friends, and colleagues during this difficult time.
