💜 Honoring Our Legacy of Advocacy During Domestic Violence Awareness Month 💜

Dade Legal Aid is proud to have been part of the team that helped establish Miami-Dade County’s Domestic Violence Court in 1992—one of the first specialized domestic violence courts in the nation.

Throughout October, Domestic Violence Awareness Month, we stand united in raising awareness, promoting prevention, supporting survivors, and honoring the lives lost to domestic violence.

Since the court’s establishment, Dade Legal Aid’s dedicated Domestic Violence team has assisted more than 15,000 survivors seeking protection through restraining orders, providing critical legal support to individuals navigating some of the most difficult moments of their lives.

💜 Celebrating Heroes During Domestic Violence Awareness Month 💜

Dade Legal Aid is proud to be part of the team that, under the leadership of Sharon Langer, established Dade County’s Domestic Violence Court, one of the first of its kind in the US, in 1992. Throughout October, we will recognize the unwavering leadership and accomplishments of our dedicated team to raise awareness of domestic violence.

Since it’s establishment, Dade Legal Aid’s dedicated Domestic Violence team has assisted more than 15,000 survivors seeking protection through restraining orders, providing critical legal representation to low-income individuals navigating the most challenging time of their lives.

Dade Legal Aid - Put Something Back in Miami recently hosted a Lunch & Learn program featuring Marva Wiley, who presented “The ABCs of Probate for Pro Bono Attorneys.”
Moderated by Lotoya K. Brown of Put Something Back, the training served as both a refresher for experienced probate volunteers and an introduction for attorneys interested in expanding their pro bono practice into probate law.

We are excited to welcome our newest intern, Zion Vigilant, a second-year law student at St. Thomas University College of Law. Zion will be performing his pro bono hours with Dade Legal Aid’s Domestic Violence team. He came to law school with a background in Political Science and a strong interest in litigation. During his 1L year, he developed a particular focus on civil litigation through coursework and related activities. He currently serves as treasurer of the Caribbean Law Student Association and is looking forward to gaining practical experience as an intern at Dade Legal Aid.

When not studying or working, Zion enjoys collecting vinyl records. He is always open to connecting with attorneys and others in the legal community.
