Dade Legal Aid - Put Something Back Dade Legal Aid was established in 1939 to provide free civil legal services to qualifying low-income residents of Miami-Dade County.

Since 1939, provides free civil legal services to qualifying low-income residents of Miami-Dade County by dedicated staff attorneys and volunteers via “Put Something Back,” the official provider of pro bono assistance for the Eleventh Judicial Circuit. The agency provides direct representation by dedicated staff attorneys and referrals to volunteer attorneys primarily in the areas of: Family Law,

Domestic Violence, Sexual Assault, Human Sex Trafficking, Guardianship, Probate, Wills, Housing, Heirs Property Protection and Prevention, Consumer, Collection, Bankruptcy, Child and Teen Advocacy, Guardian Ad Litem, Nonprofit, Intellectual Property, Patent, Bylaws, Taxation, Small Claims and other Civil matters. Put Something Back, a joint pro bono project of the Courts, Bar and Dade Legal Aid, offers an array of pro bono opportunities for Miami-Dade’s 15,000+ attorneys, including law firms, corporate counsel, government lawyers, retired and emeritus lawyers, voluntary bar associations, law schools and others seeking to give back their time, talent and resources. Put Something Back serves as the pro bono clearinghouse for the circuit and matches pre-screened clients with attorneys seeking to take on pro bono cases. Other opportunities include volunteering at pro se clinics, staffing a legal helpline, mentoring, donating, and presenting at CLE seminars. Congratulations Steven G. Paulson, Senior Supervising Attorney in the Domestic Violence Department, on receipt of the Florida Council Against S*xual Violence’s 2026 Criminal/Legal System Professional Award. The award was presented to him by Jennifer L. Dritt, Executive Director, Florida Council Against S*xual Violence, at a recent statewide conference.

A 2004 graduate of St. Thomas University School of Law, Steven interned during law school then joined the team in 2005 where he has since represented thousands of clients and family members facing domestic violence. As the Senior Supervising Attorney in Dade Legal Aid’s Domestic Violence Department, he trains, mentors and supervises interns, CLIs, and staff and serves as a speaker at numerous community wide agencies. Welcome to the team! We are delighted to share that Shamuell Yepes has joined us as a Fellow in our Domestic Violence Department where he will continue interviewing prospective clients and advocating for victims of domestic violence and sexual assault. This summer, he was an FFLA - Funding Florida Legal Aid Fellow at our office, where he gained an inside look into how the law can be a tool for justice and positive change.

Staff Attorney Alexa Philossaint recently represented our Family Law Department at her alma mater, William H. Turner Technical Arts High School, for their Public Service Capstone Interviews where students presented thoughtful research topics and demonstrated their ability to lead meaningful and engaging discussions with interviewers.
