Epilepsy is part of Ximena’s story, but it doesn’t define who she is. 💜

In the latest episode of our Epilepsy Doesn’t Define Me series, Ximena shares her journey, her strength, and what she wants others to know about living with epilepsy.

Every story helps break down stigma, build understanding, and remind our community that a diagnosis is only one part of a much bigger story.

👀 MYTH MONDAY: You can always tell when someone is having a seizure.

MYTH! Not all seizures involve falling, shaking, or losing consciousness. Some can be much more subtle—like staring, confusion, repetitive movements, or brief changes in awareness.

Knowing the different signs of a seizure can help us better recognize when someone may need support. 💜

📱 Pass the Phone: EAFLA Staff Edition! 💜

A little fun from our EAFLA Staff Retreat! We kicked one of our sessions off with a “Pass the Phone” icebreaker that gave us the chance to laugh, connect, and highlight just some of the amazing people who make our mission possible every day.

We’re grateful for the incredible team behind EAFLA and all they do for the epilepsy community across Florida. 💜

Our 2026 Staff Retreat was two days of learning, collaboration, and investing in the people behind our mission. 💜

From strategic planning and leadership development to department collaboration, wellness, and team building, our staff came together to strengthen the work we do every day for the more than 500,000 Floridians living with epilepsy.

One of the highlights of the retreat was welcoming Senator Ileana Garcia, who shared her personal connection to epilepsy and reaffirmed her commitment to advocating for Florida’s epilepsy community. We were also honored to receive a $1 million investment that will help expand critical services, strengthen advocacy efforts, and ensure individuals and families across our state have access to the support they deserve.

As we look ahead, we’re more aligned, more inspired, and more committed than ever to creating meaningful change. Thank you to everyone who made this retreat a success. Together, we’re building a stronger future for Florida’s epilepsy community.

Big news for the epilepsy community! 💜

The National Plan for Epilepsy Act (S.494) has officially passed the U.S. Senate, a major step toward improving epilepsy research, care, and public health for the more than 3.4 million Americans living with epilepsy.

This milestone reflects the power of advocacy, and now it’s time to keep the momentum going.

Help move this legislation forward by urging your U.S. Representative to support and cosponsor the National Plan for Epilepsy Act. Visit the link in our bio to take action.

Together, we’re building a brighter future for the epilepsy community.
